Jeremiah Hunt is once again on the run, but this time he's on his own. His friends, Denise Clearwater and Dmitri Alexandrov, remain in New Orleans where Denise is struggling to recover from their fight with a soul sucking demon. Jeremiah simply wants to remain hidden in Los Angeles, but unfortunately magical politics are at work and Jeremiah now finds himself at the mercy of a ruthless mage, Carlos Fuentes. Carlos blackmails Jeremiah into helping him hunt for a dangerous artifact but Carlos isn't the only one who wants it nor is he the only one Jeremiah is beholden to. Will Jeremiah find a way out of this mess or has his time finally run out?
WATCHER OF THE DARK is the third book in Joseph Nassisse's gritty urban fantasy. WATCHER OF THE DARK picks up right where King of the Dead left off. Joseph Nassisse gives readers a very brief overview of the events that have blinded Jeremiah and left him with "ghostsight", but the complexities of the tale make reading the earlier books imperative. Besides, the almost complete absence of Dmitri and Denise in WATCHER OF THE DARK will make it hard for new readers to see the bond that exists between this trio.
WATCHER OF THE DARK is the concluding book in a trilogy that leaves more questions asked than answered. This series is dark, gritty, and sometimes quite disturbing. Joseph Nassisse is a master at showing the reader just a tiny bit of hope before snatching it away in the dark claws of some supernatural baddie. If you like your urban fantasy just a shade left of the horror genre, then WATCHER IN THE DARK is part of a series you must read!
