Orestes is a gargoyle, a stone being formed of magic for
the sole purpose of protecting the king and his realm which
included humans. He and his eleven brothers were given all
the attributes of various beings including the usual
abilities of men, even the ability to remain in that form.
Orestes never concerned himself much with the humans that
served them in their home until one catches his eye and
then he finds that he may have been BORN OF STONE but his
heart certainly wasn't.
Astrid had thought she had gotten a heaven sent job, if it
weren't for the cruelty of the overseer and the fearsome
beings that she served meals to. She tries very hard to be
invisible but this one evening Orestes speaks to her and
the overseer is furious. It means another whipping but this
time he is stopped and Orestes and his brothers learn what
has been happening right before their eyes. He takes Astrid
under his care and into his bed, where he wants to keep
her. He is thrilled with her pleasure in life, even though
until now it had not been easy, and wants her to remain in
his life.
He doesn't understand what exactly he is feeling until all
hell breaks loose. One of his brothers is missing and
after he goes out to search for him, Astrid and most of the
servants in his home are kidnapped and held for the
ransom. He learns then what he will do to protect this
woman who is not a weakness but his greatest strength.
I loved BORN OF STONE! I couldn't put it down and when I
read the last word ... I wanted to read it all over again.
Author Missy Jane has given us a new world to explore and
some dreamy intriguing beings that inhabit it; besides the
humans and the gargoyles there are wizards, a king, and some
fierce warrior women. The main storyline actually involves
two of the gargoyles: Orestes and his human Astrid with the
additional side story of Nel and his Phaidra (he is the
missing brother and she is the woman who helps him escape
his captivity). There was not one character that I didn't
like, well except for the bad guys of course.
BORN OF STONE
is very well written giving readers a description of the
world and characters without slowing the pace down with
unnecessary verbiage and of course add in steaming hot sex,
gargoyle fighting and flight and you won't be able to put
this one down either. Ms. Jane added a little surprise for
Orestes and Astrid, but you will have to read the book.
This is book one of the author's Gargoyle Masters
series
and after giving hints of the king's story, the truth that
the bad guy might not be quite finished with being bad and
of course ten more brothers to deal with ... I cannot wait
for book two.
Within a body strong as stone beats a heart ready for love. For seventy years, Orestes and his twelve gargoyle brothers have done their duty to protect King Kadmos’s realm. There’s only one annoyance in his life—humans. He’s content to leave them to their idol worship. Until he notices a small, frail woman serving at his table, doing her best to remain invisible. Something about her calls to him like no human before. Astrid is terrified. Not only of the powerful magical creature with inhuman strength, but of the staff overseer’s lash for calling attention to herself. Instead she is whisked away to paradise, bathed, fed, and made love to by Orestes as if she is his reason to live. But she isn’t naïve enough to believe she is anything more than a temporary diversion. When Orestes is called away to search for a missing brother, Astrid is kidnapped by a traitor intent on using her to bend Orestes to his will. Little do the lovers know that the connection between them is no weakness, but a strength their enemies would be fools to underestimate… Warning: This book contains paranormal fighting, steamy sex scenes, strong-willed females, and men made of stone who prove to be soft as butter in the right woman’s hands.
