Romance Historical

After reading A Kiss Of Lies I immediately sought out the next book in this amazing series to see when it would become available. I am happy to announce that A PROMISE OF MORE definitely matches it title. I have found you can never get enough of Bronwen Evans. Her characters are flawed, passionate, sexy, almost human and portray a vulnerability that just makes them dearer. Sebastian Hawkestone, a card carrying member of the notorious Libertine Scholars, had a clear vision of his future and it did not include a long relationship with women of any sort -- not ever a mistress. Fate definitely played a part in Beatrice getting her chance to meet Lord Coldhurst -- AKA Sebastian -- the man who killed her brother during a pistol duel. The fact that duels were illegal had made Sebastian a fugitive. The death of his dueling partner left Beatrice and her family destitute which is why she was on the dock in the first place. The deal on the table would provide financial safety for Beatrice's mother and siblings and provide the lord with a wife, so in the eyes of society he was officially off the market and perhaps the deal would ease his guilt over his role in her brother's death. Sebastian fears the baser feelings of jealousy that come from loving so deep that one fears the loss of the object of your affection. So he carefully guards his heart only offering love to family and close friends. Sexual needs do not require loved for them to be sated. Beatrice on the other hand has never experienced love -- although there is no denying her devotion to her family. But she has never considered that there would ever be real love in her life. At her age and her station a love match was out of the question. If this bargain comes to fruition then it basically assured that both Sebastian and Beatrice will not experience any affection between them. Their coupling would be only to assure an heir. A cold business agreement nothing more. Sebastian had three elements he felt important in a marriage -- trust, respect and companionship. Time was right to marry and start a family of his own. This woman appeared to be capable of fulfilling those basic needs. Perhaps he could even look forward to a friendship but not love -- never love. But life for Sebastian and his fellow Libertine Scholars was going to become complicated and dangerous to them and those around them. The death of Beatrice's brother was looking more and more like a calculated murder rather than an accident. Sebastian was determined to find the real murderer and it looked like Beatrice was equally committed. Not only to find her brothers murderer but to put to rest any doubts of Sebastian's guilt. Anyone looking at this newly married couple is pleased to see the mutual affection. Beatrice was going to have to be careful to hide how emotionally attached she was becoming to her husband. Passion was one thing -- he could accept that -- but love could put a kibosh on a tenuous relationship. Beatrice and Sebastian are two very complex characters -- an homage to the depth of the writing talents of Bronwen Evans. A PROMISE OF MORE showcases Evans' ability to allow her characters to actually grow right in front of her readers eyes. Evans provides some of the best scenes involving intimacy. The pages get practically steamy. But what really touches me is how she manages to portray much of that lust and desire through captivating dialog and glances. Bronwen will have you coming back for more. A PROMISE OF MORE illustrates just how exciting real love can be even when it is avoided at all costs. A PROMISE OF MORE is suspenseful regency romance at its very best thanks to Bronwen Evans.

SUMMARY

In the second novel in USA Today bestselling author Bronwen Evans's sexy new Disgraced Lords series, two very independent souls find themselves fighting to resist a deepening passion. When Beatrice Hennessey sets out to confront Lord Coldhurst, the notorious rogue who killed her brother in a duel, her intent is to save her family from destitution. She's determined to blackmail the man into a loveless marriage. She'll make the wealthy Lord Coldhurst pay for the rest of his life. But while greeting his ship, Beatrice takes a tumble into the Thames—only to be fished out by a pair of strong masculine arms that tempt her to stay locked in their heated embrace forever. That is, until she realizes those arms belong to Sebastian Hawkestone, Lord Coldhurst himself. The little drowned mermaid has an interesting proposition indeed; one that Sebastian is surprised to find quite agreeable. Although he's had women more beautiful, she is pleasing to the eye, and besides, it's time he fathered an heir. Beatrice promises to be the ideal wife; a woman who hates him with an all-consuming passion is far too sensible to expect romance. However, it isn't long before Sebastian's plan for a marriage of convenience unravels, and he's caught up in the exhilarating undertow of seduction.
