KILLER PHYSIQUE is Book 19 in G.A. McKevett's always
enjoyable Savannah Reid cozy mystery series. I am a
longtime fan of this series and always look forward to a
new installment. KILLER PHYSIQUE is yet another very
entertaining mystery in this fabulous series. In addition
to the mystery, Savannah and Dirk are working out newlywed
kinks, and getting ready for a visit with in-laws. I think
this is a nice sub-plot and the slices of domestic life are
humorous at times and didn't distract at all from the
mystery.
KILLER PHYSIQUE delves into the world of celebrities and
steroids - a deadly mix for the victim, film star Jason
Tyrone. There are plenty of perfect suspects in this cozy --
jealous ex-lover, film siren co-star, old friends, and
mobster types. Even though this is a cozy, there are plenty
of moments full of suspense and action. In addition to the
newlywed detective team of Savannah and Dirk, a lot of
crime solving assists goes to Tammy the computer hacker
extraordinaire, and Savannah's sweet younger brother
Waycross.
The main characters and recurring characters are
so three-dimensional, that it's like visiting with old
friends each time I pick one of these books up. This
mystery kept me guessing right up until the end. The
medical trivia is interesting, but the most enjoyable part
of KILLER PHYSIQUE is when Savannah and Dirk are out
questioning suspects. There is a wonderful rhythm to their
method of interrogation that is great to read. Throughout
the book, you feel as if you're the one hunting down leads.
The plot is easy to follow and makes sense. Nothing seems
implausible or ridiculous.
Although this is Book 19 in the series, I think KILLER
PHYSIQUE can still be enjoyed by somebody who has not read
the previous books. However, the previous books are
definitely worth checking out because they are all equally
fun and interesting reads. Time flies when you read these
books because they are so good. A definite must for cozy
mystery fans. I anxiously await the next book in this cozy
series!
