Seventeen year old Layla is used to being an outsider with
the Wardens. After all, the Wardens are charged with
protecting humans from the demons- and Layla is half demon.
Shes' also half Warden but she can't shape shift into the
gargoyle-like form of the Wardens. However, she can "tag"
demons to help the Wardens locate and destroy them.
Layla has had a crush on Warden Zayne her entire life, but
now things are changing between them. Zayne is spending time
with a female Warden, Danika, and Layla has met a demon
named Roth who is making her question everything she thought
she knew about demons and Wardens. Secrets can be deadly
and both Layla and the Wardens are harboring secrets that
could cost the human world everything....
WHITE HOT KISS is the first book in a new series and wow,
what an incredible introduction to the world of gargoyle
protectors and demons! While reading the prequel novella,
Bitter Sweet Love, isn't necessary to understanding WHITE
HOT KISS, I highly suggest reading it first as it introduces
a bit more of the world and the characters (plus we see
Layla at a much younger age). WHITE HOT KISS jumps right
into the messy, confusing life of Layla and her lack of
belonging to any particular world. She's surrounded by human
friends and Wardens, but neither fully understands her.
Jennifer L. Armentrout does an exceptional job at crafting a
world and a new mythology. I love seeing the world through
Layla's eyes as she both a part of the worlds and an
outsider at the same time. Her half Warden, half demon
status (while attending human public school!) offers her the
perfect perspective on all sides and makes for some
fascinating twists.
WHITE HOT KISS is a fast paced, entertaining story with
solid world building, captivating characters, and an
intriguing love triangle. The cliffhanger ending had me
screaming, "NO NO NO!" and leaves me eagerly (and anxiously)
awaiting the second installment, Stone Cold Touch. Jennifer
L. Armentrout has a hit series on her hand if WHITE HOT KISS
is any indication!
One kiss could be the last
Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a
kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but
normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no
one else possesses.
Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with
hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit
in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she
loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy,
incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's
crushed on since forever.
Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who
claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay
away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that
whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has
no soul.
But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent
demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her
chances with Zayne it could brand her a traitor to her
family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the
end of the world.
