Lacey Cross, a dental receptionist in Topeka, Kansas, is about to have her world come crashing down around her. At work she receives a call that says only, "On the third day" then the caller hangs up, a few minutes later chaos erupts. In walks, a detective she knows from her own brothers' troubles with the cops and a tall, blonde haired man with the same kind of accent as the caller had. Before she knows it she's in protective custody and about to be set up as a SECURE TARGET.
Bronnik Mason, a member of the South African Task Force, has been chasing a serial killer half way around the world and now stands in Kansas. He will not see this man claim another victim. Within moments of meeting Lacey, he is doubly sure that the killer won't get her but he is also worried about his own ability of keeping this all professional. He has never felt such an instantaneous attraction to anyone before.
SECURE TARGET is a book you will not be able to put down. The action begins from page one with not only the danger she is in physically but also emotionally. It seems the tall rangy Bronnik has a problem with keeping his eye on the prize, but then maybe Lacey is the prize. I also liked watching Lacey become stronger than she imagined she could be and learns to stand up to whatever comes her way. After hints of her family background come out I applauded the author's efforts in setting her free from her past. I enjoyed the emotional ups and downs as they both fight to keep in mind the real danger. The fast pace of them falling in love did not bother me as I am a believer in love at first sight and the ups and downs they went through only added to the steamy moments when they gave in. It might have been nice to have a little more background on the killer, and why he targeted dental receptionists, but the fact that he was crazy as a loon did the job for me. Author Rebecca Crowley has written a fast paced, action packed story and since it is book 1 of her Elite Operators series, I cannot wait to see who gets the next story.
South African hostage rescue operative Bronnik Mason has
been chasing a serial killer around the globe for over a
year. Four women have already died, and heβs sworn there
wonβt be a fifth. Even if, this time, he has to offer up
more than a few pints of his own blood.
But when it comes to safeguarding the killerβs next target,
Bronnik realizes this case could put his professional
boundaries to the test.
Having grown up in the shadow of two delinquent brothers,
dental receptionist Lacey Cross is impeccably well-behaved,
dutiful, hard workingβand bored. Until Bronnik storms into
the office to sweep her into protective custody. Suddenly,
her nondescript life just got a lot more interesting.
