After Delaney was pulled from the frozen waters of Falcon
Lake, people close to her begin to die. First it was Carson,
the boy who saved her from the lake, then Troy. There are
whispers of a curse and how the lake can't forgive Delaney
for escaping her fate. Decker refuses to believe in the
curse that is haunting the town, and he refuses to believe
that Delaney, the girl he loves, knows more about these
deaths than she's saying. Then Decker's father dies, a pool
of water beneath him. Decker can't forgive Delaney, because
she knew his father was going to die. And she didn't tell
him. Is there a curse haunting Falcon Lake and who will its
next victim be?
VENGEANCE by Megan Miranda is a chilling sequel to her novel
Fracture. Miranda creates a dark, brooding atmosphere of
fear and death, which lurks beneath every word. The curse
haunts the people of this small Maine town, but are curses
real? It's a question the people of the small Maine town
continue to ask themselves and author Megan Miranda plays
upon the fear and tension that seep into the characters'
minds as unusual accidents continue to plague the town.
Perfectly paced to keep the reader guessing, Miranda draws
out the mystery until the unexpected climax.
Central to the mounting tension is the growing rift between
Decker and Delaney. Their love had been absolute, twining
through every decision they made. Megan Miranda captures the
intense emotions of first love, but it's a love tinged by
the shadow of death and guilt. Decker and Delaney struggle
to carry the guilt of their secrets from each other. Their
separation from each other gives them space to evaluate
their emotional attachment and if their love for each other
is actually more than the passion of first love. I
particularly like this aspect of the story because it does
treat the relationship between these two teens like more
than an all-consuming passion for each other. Whether they
can forgive each other and themselves, I'll leave for you to
find out when you read this fantastic novel.
VENGEANCE by Megan Miranda is a haunting glimpse into the
lingering pain caused by a sudden and unexplained death.
Suspenseful, eerie, and filled with emotion, VENGEANCE is a
must read YA that straddles the line between life and death.
Nobody really believes in a curse. Until you know the people
who disappear. Too much coincidence, you look for reason.
Too much death, you grasp for something to blame. Carson
pulled Delaney out and he died on the side of the road with
her mouth pressed to his. Her air in his body. Troy. She
told the cops it was suicide. Didn't matter. The lake
released her and grabbed another. But when Decker's father
dies in a pool of spilled water on their kitchen floor, all
Decker can feel is a slow burning rage. Because he knows
that Delaney knew that his dad was going to die. She knew
and backed out of his house and never said a word. Falcon
Lake still has a hold on them both, and Decker can't
forgive Delaney until he knows why.
