Every once in awhile a book comes along that takes you completely by surprise. CAT GOT YOUR TONGUE did just that for me. I was expecting a romantic/mystery but what I got was a funny, neatly twisted ride that lead to an amazing love story.
Alexis Foxley is a partner in the bodyguard agency, Body Armor. She's petite but tough, very good at her job and very knowledgeable about the art world. Her mother is in fact a cat burglar. That's her mother's world; she is on the side of protecting the art from Cat's like her mother. When she sees one of the Cat's following one of the winners of a Renoir, her instinct sends her racing after them to protect the art and the winner.
Coleson Anderson, art collector, billionaire is looking to update his security and after meeting Alex at an auction he has developed an interest in her. He wasn't told that the company that had been recommended to him was hers. He is ready to pay anything for her services ... as bodyguard. She makes it clear that no matter what the attraction is between them her duty is as guard. He wants it all and this billionaire usually gets what he wants. Despite everything Alex finds that her attraction to Cole is stronger than her good intentions and this is one 'Shield' who will become so much more.
CAT GOT YOUR TONGUE is a fascinating book. It takes you to a world of art and wealth and those who want to take it from the owners and those who have sworn to protect it. I loved Alex, she is tough and smart and in a really tough spot. She had grown up around thieves and fences, but she chose the protection side. Her unwritten agreement with the Cats is that if they didn't touch her Shields then she won't go after them, they cross the line and so will she. Cole is a gorgeous, sexy, wealthy guy who is not afraid to show his softer side, his closeness to his family and his growing love for his bodyguard are examples. The author Rae Rivers, who lives in Cape Town, South Africa, throws in some phrases that are unusual for us but adds a lot of color to the story line. She also added in as secondary characters a couple of Alex partners and I really hope she plans to give those guys a story of their own soon. I will be ready to read them if she does.
