"The agent of death deals out just that"

Fantasy Urban

In BLACK HEART, Madeline Black's life and world is still in turmoil. Despite having saved Chicago from a vampire invasion, the Agency still wants Maddy off the payroll ... for ever. They go as far as to send the deadly Retrievers after her, giving her no option but to allow Nathaniel to open a port and send her through it.

But the port doesn't lead to a tropical island, where she can rest and relax but has her caught up in a turf war between a group of Fae and a somewhat familiar enemy the Cimice. A turf war caused by her grandfather Lucifer and his brothers in part of their twisted plots.

As an agent of death, she is use to seeing that souls make it to where they must go; she isn't use to causing violence that releases those souls. With the enemies on all sides Maddy just might have to reach into the darkest part of her to protect those she loves ... especially her unborn son.

BLACK HEART is a fast paced, spine tingling, adventure ride that won't let you go till the end. Maddy's life continues with the chaos that we are use to but there is a lot of additional facts that come out in this book that make things clearer. The familiar characters return in this book with new ones added to round out her "family." I loved the snappy conversation, especially with Beezle her food loving gargoyle; the emotional moments when it is believed she is dead, and the scene with the Retrievers toward the end. Maddy is one gutsy heroine and Lucifer and his brothers better watch out because they are forcing her to evolve into something they just might fear. To be honest this was not my favorite of author Christina Henry's Black Wing Novels but it is still a very good read and with Maddy evolving I can't wait to see where she goes from here.

SUMMARY

As a former Agent of Death, Madeline Black is no stranger to witnessing violent ends. But being the one to cause them is an entirely different story… Despite her having saved Chicago from a vampire invasion, the Agency wants to get Maddy off their payroll—permanently. With the deadly Retrievers hot on her trail, she has no choice but to trust Nathaniel to port her to safety. But even the exotic and dangerous world that she winds up in is not as peaceful as she would have hoped. Caught in a turf war between a group of fae and a disturbingly familiar foe, Maddy soon discovers that the twisted plots of her grandfather, Lucifer, and his brothers extend even into this unknown realm. Now, with enemies gathering on all sides, Maddy’s fate is looking darker than ever. And to protect her unborn son from her adversaries, she may have to tap into a power she hoped never to access…
