I'd been looking forward to the next young adult adventure from these globetrotters, and it didn't disappoint. GANNON AND WYATT: EGYPT does what it says on the pack; the twins are off exploring in the land of pharaohs and pyramids. Having won a month's stay with an archaeological dig, the lads head off excitedly, keeping individual journals, while their parents who work for an airline rearrange schedules to accompany them for free.
Dr. Mohammad Aziz is the friendly professor who will be in charge of the boys, and they are sharing work with James from Australia and Serene from Egypt. Gannon is ever so slightly worried about the curse that is said to follow those who open a tomb.... The boys each record different impressions of crowded, noisy, Cairo with incessant traffic alongside donkey carts and goatherds, where almost all men are named Mohammed and the call to prayer sounds five times a day. They shop for souvenirs and Gannon is given an old tile with Cleopatra's face on it, since he is hoping to find her burial place.
A river boat takes the team from the Great Pyramids to the tombs at Luxor, on the lush banks of the Nile. A new tomb is opened with great care, but turns out the nobleman mummified inside planted some booby-traps, and our explorers fall foul of them!
The photos are evocative of every location, from the gilded bazaar to the empty desert, from the camel trains to the pyramids rising above city roofs. Small children love learning to read, the first in their families to be literate, while well-armed scary military policemen protect the dig and possible treasure from robbers. A sandstorm blasts the camp for two days, and falafels and flatbread are the staple food. The boy learn that when you are pursuing your goals, it is important not to give up, however tough the going.
To find out how the story ends, pick up GANNON AND WYATT: EGYPT by Wheeler and Hemstreet and join in the fun!
After winning a prestigious fellowship from the Youth
Exploration Society, Gannon and Wyatt set off on a journey
to Egypt. There they study with world-renowned archeologist
Dr. Mohammed Aziz, joining him on a quest to find the long
lost tomb of the Pharaoh Cleopatra, rumored to hold
priceless treasures and secret scrolls containing answers to
some of ancient Egyptβs greatest mysteries. But Gannon and
Wyatt arenβt the only ones interested in Cleopatraβs
secrets. Ruthless tomb robbers are hot on their heels, and
the brothers must brave venomous snakes, deadly booby traps,
and ancient curses as they find themselves on the verge of a
magnificent discovery that could rewrite history.
In the tradition of the historic journals kept by explorers
such as Lewis and Clark, Dr. David Livingstone, and Captain
James Cook comes the adventure series Travels with Gannon &
Wyatt. From Africa to the South Pacific, these twin brothers
have traveled the world. You never know what they will
encounter as they venture into the wild, but one things is
certain?wherever Gannon and Wyatt go, adventure is their
constant companion.
