Lady Rebecca has spent the last two years of her life pretending to be mad just to avoid having her aunt and uncle marry her off to an old man for money. Wanting to decide her own fate, Rebecca sneaks into the Kingsborough Ball in hopes of finding a suitor who will not only be approved by her guardians but also be more age appropriate for her. Of all the eligible men at the ball though, it's the completely unsuitable and rakish Daniel Neville that holds her interest the most.
Daniel, heir to the Marquis of Wolvington, has spent a good portion of his life just having a good time, so when his uncle delivers an ultimatum, Daniel goes about fulfilling it the only way he knows how; like a rake. Finding a woman who will overlook his past and agree to marry him seems like a tall order, given his reputation, but Daniel is determined. When he meets Rebecca, he's positive she's exactly what he's been looking for, but the scandal that erupts around them may end up costing them everything before their story can even begin.
After thoroughly enjoying The Trouble With Being A Duke, I have been very much anticipating Sophie Barnes' second book in the At the Kingsborough Ball series, THE SCANDAL IN KISSING AN HEIR. Now that it's here, I can say I enjoyed it just as much as I did the first book. One thing I thought that was great about this series is that we get to return to the Kingsborough Ball and get to see how things unfold from different characters perspectives. Daniel and Rebecca are the kind of characters you find yourself falling in love with. Daniel's determination to do right by Rebecca and prove himself capable of taking care of her is one of his more endearing qualities. Rebecca's aunt and uncle are about as loathsome as you can imagine, so you'll find yourself cheering Rebecca on when she decides to defy them. If you're looking for a sweet romance mixed in with a bit of danger, you won't go wrong with THE SCANDAL IN KISSING AN HEIR.
