Literature and Fiction

Janelle Decker lived with her grandmother as a child, and now that she's an adult, with her own twelve-year-old to take care of, she's returning to care for her as her health declines. Things are almost the way she remembers them, except for the neighbor boys, the Tierney's, who are grown now like she is. Gabe and his twin brothers, Michael and Andrew, are still close by, and now Janelle finds herself faced with the estranged relationship she and Gabe had way back when. It's the incident that occurred in the woods one day that drove Janelle away and the brothers apart, but there are secrets that will be revealed now that she is back. This isn't a heart-warming title, but instead it leaves you pondering on life and relationships. This is a change of genres for me, being more of a dark fiction fan, and I was pleasantly surprised for the most part. There are not a lot of syrupy sweet moments and clichés. What you have here is a tale about relationships and life in general, a circle of life tale, if you will. Janelle having to take care of her ailing grandmother is believable and certainly something others can relate to. I particularly enjoyed the slow unraveling and hard reveal of THE FAVOR. Well done. Author Megan Hart done a great job with this spellbinding novel.

SUMMARY

Janelle Decker has happy childhood memories of her grandma's house, and even lived there through high school. Now she's back with her twelve-year-old son to look after her ailing Nan, and hardly anything seems to have changed, not even the Tierney boys next door. Gabriel Tierney, local bad-boy. The twins, Michael and Andrew. After everything that happened between the four of them, Janelle is shocked that Gabe still lives in St. Mary's. And he isn't trying very hard to convince Janelle he's changed from the moody teenage boy she once knew. If anything, he seems bent on making sure she has no intentions of rekindling their past. To this day, though there might've been a lot of speculation about her relationship with Gabe, nobody else knows she was there in the woods that day...the day a devastating accident tore the Tierney brothers apart and drove Janelle away. But there are things that even Janelle doesn't know, and as she and Gabe revisit their interrupted romance, she begins to uncover the truth denied to her when she ran away all those years ago.
