THE LADY OF SECRETS begins with the execution of an innocent teenager convicted of witchcraft. Years later, the threat of burning is still very real. The Lady of Faire Isle, Meg Wolfe, must be cautious when she uses her herbs and common sense to solve problems in nearby villages. Still, when an outsider seeks her out and asks for her help, she agrees to go with him to London for a consultation with King James. She soon finds herself caught between the gunpowder plot and a coven of murderous witches.
This book is the sixth in author Susan Carroll's Dark Queen Saga. I have not read any of the other books, but I feel it might be a help to read them first, to understand some portions of THE LADY OF SECRETS. The prologue introduces characters that we don't see again for quite some time, which made it difficult for me to get into the story; I was too confused about how it all fit together. Still, it's an interesting story with quite a few thrills.
If you enjoy books set during the reign of King James Stuart, historical paranormals, or romances with a bit of suspense and mystery, you may want to give Carroll's Dark Queen Saga a try.
