Colette Iselin's life has really gone downhill in a year's
time. Her father has had a midlife crisis and divorced her
mother, which snowballs into their lifestyle changing from
super nice to mediocre at best. She has a younger brother
that she really doesn't get along with. Her mother has to
work in order to keep her in the upscale private school that
she still attends. Her best friends are Hannah and Pilar,
both of whom come from wealthy families. She hasn't had the
nerve to tell them about her situation so she keeps
pretending that everything is normal.
Her French class is heading to France for spring break and
she couldn't be more excited. Everything seems to go well
until the killings begin. It seems there's a serial killer
cutting a path through Paris by cutting off the heads of
young, beautiful, and wealthy victims. It's not long before
the murderer becomes apparent when she shows herself to
Colette. The ghost of Marie Antoinette is upset and she's
taking her revenge on those that she feels deserve it.
The problem is that Colette is also on the list of victims
and she must find out why before it is too late.
MARIE ANTOINETTE SERIAL KILLER may sound like a juvenile
title and it is written for young people. However, I loved
this book! It covers all of the emotions from
lightheartedness to sadness to anger to fright. There's a
definite creep factor to the scarier scenes that you'll take
with you long after you finish reading that final page.
Katie Alender goes a long way when it comes to encouraging
and influencing young people to read and enjoy it. These are
the same young people that tend to prefer playing video
games and texting to reading. If you know anyone like that,
please put MARIE ANTOINETTE SERIAL KILLER in their hands.
Not only will they read it until the very end, but they'll
love it and thank you for sharing it with them.
The characters in this book are very three dimensional.
You'll find yourself saying over and over again, "Oh I knew
someone just like this!" Being able to relate to the
characters will also help you immerse yourself in the story
that is being told. You'll find yourself walking through
those dark closed in catacombs with poor Colette as she
struggles with her intense fear of tight dark places. You'll
also want to slap a couple of her friends and try to turn
them into nice people.
Seriously, just read MARIE ANTOINETTE SERIAL KILLER. No
matter what your age, you'll be giving yourself a real
treat.
Paris, France: a city of fashion,
chocolate croissants, and cute boys. Colette Iselin is
thrilled be there for the first time, on her spring break
class trip.
But a series of gruesome murders are
taking place around the city, putting everyone on edge. And
as she tours the sights, Colette keeps seeing a strange
vision: a pale woman in a ball gown and powdered wig, who
looks like Marie Antoinette.
Colette knows her
status-obsessed friends won't believe her, so she seeks out
the help of a charming French boy. Together, they discover
that the murder victims are all descendants of people who
ultimately brought about Marie Antoinette's beheading. The
queen's ghost has been awakened, and now she's wreaking her
bloodthirsty revenge.
And Colette may just be one of
those descendants . . . which means she might not make it
out of this trip alive.
Acclaimed author Katie
Alender brings heart-stopping suspense to this story of
betrayal, glamour, mystery, history--and one killer queen.
