POSSESSION, the fifth book in the Fallen Angels series by J.R. Ward has pulse-pounding twists, a titillating romance and a darker side of angels that you've never seen before.
Major advancements occurr in the war between good and evil. However, this isn't an easy win for Jim Heron, because although he finally gets what he has been coveting throughout this whole game, the consequences of his actions are far more devastating than he could ever have predicted. Now the stakes are even higher and when the game is about outsmarting your enemy, the tactics used often revolve around sex, betrayal and lies.
Ward introduces Duke Phillips and Cait Douglass, two new pieces in the chess game from hell. When Duke reaches a crossroad in his life, he must make a decision that will either make or break the war for the angels. Duke is the stuff of reader's dreams-- he is a terrific hero and has the characteristics that make Ward's heroes so delectable. Raw and unapologetic, his aura oozes dominance and Cait is hapless but to obey his every command.
The most surprising for me was Devina's character who I used to hate with an intense passion. However, in this book, Ward makes evil sound like a lot of fun. The twists and turns along the way make for an unpredictable, shocking ride and seeing it from Devina's point of view is an interesting eye- opener. I went from despising her character to wondering what would happen if Devina won this war.
Ward takes it easy in the first part of POSSESSION, but doesn't give any warning when she blindsides you with fatal twists and turns. For a ride that you won't forget, Ward's unique writing will have your heads spinning and begging for more.
