Fresh Fiction Review

Do Or Diner

Mystery Cozy | Mystery Amateur Sleuth

Christine Wenger has written a very delightful book. Not only is it a great book, but in the back it includes recipes. I read DO OR DINER in one day, just couldn't put it down. This is the first book in a new series. Can't wait for the next one. I always love when I can get right into a book, but always sad when I finish it.

We get to meet Trixie. Trixie is starting over by buying her aunts diner. Little does she know that she will also be investigating a murder. We also meet Ty, the deputy of the town. Ty is also new to the area. Women are swooning over him because of his cowboy good looks. Not only is Trixie struggling with starting a new life, but the murder takes place in her diner.

Christine gives you the sense that you are the one running the diner. It is the kind of diner that all the people in a small town visit to sit around and gossip about what is going on in the town. Christine combines humor along with a very cozy mystery.

There are also several other characters that are part of this delightful story. There is the cook, Juanita and several of the servers. The staff of waitresses are taking in by Ty. It is pretty funny how they all just stare at him when they are taking his order. They all have there own language when they put in an order. Trixie has a little bit of a hard time trying to pick up this lingo. But she does finally pick it up.

If DO OR DINE is any indication of the rest of the series by Christine Wenger, I will be one of the first to get it.

SUMMARY

When Trixie Matkowski agrees to take over her aunt’s diner, she pictures lakeside views and delicious comfort food in the small town where she spent summers as a child. But the sweet scene turns sour when someone puts murder on the menu…

Trixie is in need of a fresh start away from her cheating ex-husband, but she may be biting off more than she can chew when she moves to upstate New York to run her family’s famed Silver Bullet Diner. Not only is she caught off guard by the small town’s resident heartthrob, Deputy Ty Brisco, but her first health inspection turns into a nightmare…when the inspector keels over in his Blue Plate Special.

It seems someone made a deadly addition to an old family recipe, and Trixie is determined to find out whodunit. But between serving up orders and sniffing out clues, she’d better watch her back—or her next meal might be her last.

Includes recipes!
