Grace Ann Terhune is beside herself because her mother's
salon may close
because of a mistake. Violetta has been the proud owner of
Violetta's Beauty
Shop for decades, but suddenly all of their clients have
been going to the new
salon in town -- Snippets. Grace Ann can't help but feel
guilty about this
since this all began with her. She pushed her mom to hire
Social Media
Consultant Lisa Butterworth, who used their client list to
send out emails for a
few months and then suddenly left. But it ended up that
Lisa actually worked
for Snippets; suddenly, the Violetta clients began getting
personalised deals
that just undercut Violetta's prices. Suddenly, Violetta's
goes from a busy,
thriving beauty shop to a deserted shop with Violetta
telling her workers to
take days off.
As if things didn't look dire enough, an inspection turns up
a mold issue
which will close the shop for at least several weeks,
pending the cooperation
of the insurance company. And Violetta gets word that the
local historical
society has been notified that her shop may qualify to be
listed as a historic
site, which would mean that all of the renovations she did
to turn the place
into a salon and house would have to be undone so that house
would look the
way it originally did. Just as things couldn't look any
worse for the Terhune
family, Lisa Butterworth is killed on Snippet's property, on
the same night that
Grace Ann decides to go there to see what their salon looks
like, making her a
top suspect.
As luck would have it, her ex-husband, a police officer on
the St. Elizabeth
police department is of the first on the scene, and he is
all too eager to solve
the case, even if that means arresting Grace Ann. This
motivates her to solve
the case herself, but it turns out that Lisa has pulled her
"stealing a client list"
act on several other businesses, as well. Not only that,
but she was the
manager of Snippet's, and she didn't treat her employees
very well, giving
several people motives to kill her, including the finance
person who suspected
her of stealing money and a staff member who was next in
line for the
managerial job.
WAVE GOOD-BYE is so nicely written that I couldn't read it
quickly enough. I loved the
tension in the book, as I couldn't wait to find out what
would happen to
Violetta's, as well as to all of the people who worked
there. I also loved how
tenacious Grace Ann was in wanting to solve the mystery both
to prove herself
innocent, but also to help out her colleagues and her
mother. The romantic
interests in this book were a great addition, and I am
really eager to see the
progression of this in the next book in the series (and I DO
hope this series is
continuing!). The Southern Beauty Shop Mysteries is
not to be missed!
