Weddings are about dreams come true, the happily ever after ending or beginning of a new life together with your ideal perfect soul mate. But what happens when that dream comes crashing to a sudden halt. Both parties are left adrift with wounds that seem almost impossible to heal. Love is the reason why people get married. But what happens when love just isn't enough. What happens when the elusive thing you are really looking for is trust and truly unconditional love. Holly Jacobs has taken a real and heart wrenching look at how life colors our choices with this story that grabs your heart. A WALK DOWN THE AISLE is part three of a wedding series that is probably one of the best I've ever read. Each absolutely stands on its own merit, but it's been a delight to attend each one.
Sophia and her cowboy Colton have been winning our hearts for quite a while. This was supposed to be their wedding day. Everything was going to be just perfect. Sophia couldn't imagine finding anyone more suited to be her husband then this man who had become her best friend. She loved him with all her heart which surprised her no end. You see Sophia had always assumed she would never get married. People she loved had always broken her heart, actually shattered it and left her to put together the pieces of her life, the best way she could totally on her own and alone. Maybe it was safer being alone. It meant protecting your heart from the abject pain from the disappointment brought on by those that summarily misuse your trust and love.
As a pregnant teenager Sophia had to learn a harsh but valuable lesson to never depend on anyone to help. Her parents weren't at all concerned with the consequences of their decisions for the child their daughter was going to have. They were adamant that the baby be put up for adoption. Sophia had no means to support herself and her child; she was still just a teenager. The father had deserted her. Her parents quite simply with this very important decision mapped out the future of their daughter. It was more important to maintain appearances, feelings be damned.
Fast forward to her wedding day -- the last person Sophia ever expected at her wedding was the little girl she gave up for adoption so many years ago. This young lady had come looking for answers. She had been quite fortunate with her adoptive parents but still needed to know more about who she was.
This was a secret Colton just couldn't get passed. It tested his trust of this woman who was his heart and in spite of his feelings for Sophia he put up an instant wall. As far as Sophia was concerned this was just another example of people disappointing her even though she fully admitted keeping this secret. Colton had no way to explain why his reaction was so visceral and now that he has had time to think he realizes what a great mistake he has made. Problem now is to regain that trust with Sophia.
Each installment in this series becomes my new favorite. I guess I'm just fickle. A WALK DOWN THE AISLE is a really terrific engaging story that grabs your heart and doesn't let go. If you haven't yet read Holly Jacobs this series is a wonderful introduction.
