Ten books into the Lords of the Underworld series and Gena Showalter is still able to prove why she is the queen of Paranormal Romance.
Kane, Keeper of Disaster, has not been a heavy presence in the series so far, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Showalter gives Kane a stunning story that is sure to make loyal fans rejoice! Kane is now a changed man. After being tortured in hell, he has come out breathing, but no less alive. He is plagued by memories of his torture. However, his rescuer Josephina Aisling lights a fire within him that burns brighter.
As a half-Fae creature, Josephina's royal family looks down on her because of her diluted blood. She suffers punishments simply because she was born that way, resulting in her wish to die. She asks one thing from Kane -- for him to kill her. But what happens when Kane decides he wants her to live so that he can be with her?
THE DARKEST CRAVING is grand and epic. Showalter's imagination is limitless and so is her ability to paint a dazzling picture with her words. The writing is what drew me into this book. Page after page is filled with humor, steam, mythology and magic. Showalter has really outdone herself with Kane's story, breathing life into his character and making him stand proudly alongside the other Lords of the Underworld.
THE DARKEST CRAVING just might be my favorite Paranormal Romance of the year.
