Jane Bunting is a talented baker, but she's still struggling to keep her shop afloat. When Richard Moore, Lord Raleigh storms through her front door and attacks her cousin, it's the start of something that could destroy her business and her life.
A TASTE FOR SCANDAL is a sweet romance with a lot of heat but nothing explicit. Author Erin Knightley has crafted a truly enjoyable story peopled with strong, likeable characters, and a couple of nasties for conflict. Jane and Richard don't like each other at all, at first, but they're polite people who realize they may have been mistaken. It doesn't take long for them to start seeing that good in each other.
Jane has a difficult life, running the shop and caring for her younger brother. Her sailor cousin's return from the sea, while helpful in some ways, is also quite disrupting. Richard has troubles of his own at home. And of course, they're all wrong for each other. A common baker and the heir to a marquisate can't possibly have a future together.
I had a wonderful time reading this book. Knightley is so descriptive, especially of the delightful scents in Jane's kitchen. Richard and Jane and their families are a pleasure to spend time with and I raced through the book. Fortunately, it's the second in a series about Richard's family, and I'm looking forward to spending more time with them in the future.
A TASTE FOR SCANDAL is perfect for readers who enjoy historical or Regency novels, a little cooking mixed in with their romance, and a love story that leaves the lovemaking to your imagination.
