Suspense

From the thrill of seeing his painstakingly developed Logos experiment work even better than expected to the dressing down he has to endure from the Chair of Yale University's Human Research Protection Program, Dr. Ethan Lightman fights to keep his anxiety under control. He had worked for years on his research that would bring subjects dangerous close to a seizure point and then give then special electrical prodding to reach the source in the brain for mystical feeling. But now, the interference first from the nurse and now from Sam Houston threaten to derail his efforts. If only he could handle the university administrators as well as his wonderful mentor, Dr. Elijah Schiff. Would they be shut down before they could fine tune the final programming?

Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, Dr. Mousa bin Ibrahim Al-Mohammad is enjoying a wonderful day with his young daughter and now is relishing the return trip home to see his wife. Everything is normal as they wait in line at the airport in Dubai until they attempt to board their flight. Suddenly, things shift very quickly and Mousa is first worried, then is very, very afraid. What is going on?

Before Ethan could tell of his day, Elijah comes in with the incredible news that the Neurological Advancement Foundation would fund their neuroscience research. Now, they just needed to do the animal testing and they would be on their way! But, just who is the NAF and what might they want in return?

Soon, the small team who had been working on Ethan's research project to identify the source of mystical feelings in the human brain is joined by the pert and brilliant Rachel Riley, a graduate student in working in the secret location of Yale's CapLab, the capuchin monkey research laboratory. Rachel knows her animals very well and is very protective in ensuring that they not be harmed in any way and she wants to know what is happening. But, as they strategize over potential issues, neither Rachel nor Ethan foresee the dangers they are in. How far does the treachery they face go? Who is behind it and what will happen to LOGOS? Will they face the same fate that happens to Elijah?

With its quick witted dialogue and strong storyline, Jeffery Small has crafted a suspenseful religious thriller, filled with black CIA operations, greed, deception and explosive action. With his background in theological studies , Small has skillfully and smoothly interwoven intriguing questions about the nature of God and various religious implications seamlessly into this incredible and intriguing story that rings both outlandish and credible. The secondary characters are well crafted, especially that of Mousa and the assassin Axe, as their background motivations and histories are revealed. The main protagonists Ethan and Rachel are very well-matched in intelligence, quick thinking and passion for their work and how they deal with the adversaries they encounter.

Reminiscence of works done by authors, such as James Rollins and Dan Brown, THE JER1CH0 DECEPT10N contains many of the usual elements found in this genre: the chase across many intriguing and exotic places, secret and expensive underground operations, villains, CIA involvement and the heroic couple. Yet, despite how far reaching and fantastic the story, the plot remains plausible and realistically detailed. Fans will find there are enough surprising twists and amazing revelations to make for a totally enjoyable suspenseful story! Definitely a riveting read to enjoy and the implications of the story about God and the ethical considerations in the war on terrorist fanatics will reverberate in your mind after you finish this fast paced and explosive story!

SUMMARY

A heart-stopping thriller into the nexus between spirituality, neuropsychology, and international politics. What if you controlled the power to see God?

Yale neuroscientist Dr. Ethan Lightman is on the verge of a ground-breaking discovery. A discovery that will solve a mystery that has haunted him since childhood. A discovery that will alter humanity’s relationship with religion forever.

Ethan’s invention, the Logos machine, has the power to produce religious ecstasy, but it may also cause madness.

When a colleague is brutally murdered, Ethan and Rachel Riley, a brilliant and beautiful graduate student, are thrust into a web of treachery that takes them deep into the Egyptian desert and to Project Jericho: a top-secret CIA program run by a mysterious doctor. As Ethan learns how his research has been perverted, he and Rachel race to unlock the Logos machine’s secrets before Project Jericho launches a modern Holy War. Along the way, he must confront a suppressed secret from his past that defines his very being.
