Jake Wilkerson isn't sure he's cut out to be a preacher, but
he's planning to do his best for the congregation of a small
church in Pennsylvania. The unlikely angel sent to help is a
very perceptive cat. Together, Jake and Petey set out to win
over the church members, townspeople, and a teenager in
trouble.
THE CAT THAT GOD SENT is an easy-to-read story told
primarily from the perspectives of Jake and Petey. Jake's
biggest concern is how he can bring people to God when he's
unsure of his own faith. He's also overcoming the effects of
a bad relationship with the niece of the senior pastor at
his former church. Petey's only problem is how to get his
message across without using words, but it's not usually too
difficult for this street-smart feline.
I love cats and stories about cats, so I was excited to read
this one. Author Jim Kraus's writing is simple but
effective. I did find it a bit repetitive. One story line
was, for me, a little heavy-handed, but this is Christian
fiction. The novel is very positive and uplifting overall.
I recommend THE CAT THAT GOD SENT for teens and adults who
enjoy Christian fiction. It has one storyline that's more
mature in nature -- though it doesn't get graphic -- that
may
not be appropriate for some younger readers.
Jake Wilkerson, a disillusioned young pastor who is an expert at hiding his fears, takes on a new assignment at a small rural church in Coudersport, Pennsylvania. It's a far piece from anywhere and full of curiously odd and eccentric people, including Emma Grainger, a single woman and a veterinarian who dismisses all Christians as "those people," and Tassy, a young runaway with a secret. His first day on the job, however, Jake is adopted by Petey - a cat of unknown origins and breed - but of great perception. Petey believes that he is on a mission from God to redeem Jake and bring him and his quirky friends back to the truth.
