"The Veterinarian and the Rodeo Queen...only in Wyoming..."

Fresh Fiction Review

Romance Contemporary

Rodeo Champion Tanna Barker is facing some rough times physically and emotionally after she is severely injured in a Barrel Race, and her horse killed. After mounting medical and therapy bills suck up all her available income, she takes a job offered by friends to help her get back on her feet. At a bar in a small town in Wyoming, she picks up a handsome, well built stranger for a one-night-stand. Tanna sneaks out of his bed the next morning, and heads to her new job at the Split Rock Resort.

Veterinarian Augustus Fletcher is no stranger to one-night-stands. His busy practice has him running all over a large area of territory to take care of the farm animals needing his care. A night here or there with a woman he meets in a bar is about all he has time for. This one that got away, however, is something special; someone he would like to get to know better, if she hadn't snuck out on him. Fate intervenes, and he runs into Tanna while on the job at a local ranch. This time, Fletch is determined to get to know Tanna better, a lot better.

Tanna is still nursing the wounds of her injuries, both physical and mental. The anguish she feels over causing the death of her beloved horse is haunting her, making her fear to even be near horses, much less try to ride one again. Fletch has become quite taken with Tanna, to the point where he is looking to build a real relationship with her, and also a future with her. Unfortunately for him, Tanna is only in Muddy Gap and at the Resort for the short term; and has plans to blow the small Wyoming town when she gets herself pulled back together again and can head back to the Rodeo circuit.

TURN AND BURN is a very good story, a nice addition to Lorelei James Blacktop Cowboys series; and quite the steamy read. Six years have passed since the series started, and true to form for a Lorelei James novel, there are now lots of babies and pregnancies all around. Tanna is quite appealing as a down on her luck woman trying to pull herself back together and get back to the rodeo world; but Fletch steals the show in this story. readers have come to know Fletch over the books in the series as a kind man; and a very good, dedicated veterinarian. In this, his own story, he shows himself to be not only a hunky alpha male, but a lonely man looking for more than just the one-night relationships that he has been trapped in for so long. Fletch just needs to convince Tanna to take a chance on him, and on love. TURN AND BURN is a sexy and heartfelt addition to the series, and a treat for the fans.

SUMMARY

Tanna Barker is a world champion barrel racer. But her personal life has been less of a success, and she’s feeling adrift. After her mother’s unexpected death, her father has remarried, and sold the Texas ranch she called home. Now a rodeo injury has left the restless spitfire holed up in Muddy Gap, unsure what her next move should be. Until she meets her match in a wild, wild cowboy Veterinarian August Fletcher has always put his job first. He’s never found a woman who could handle his on-the-road lifestyle. But when sassy, sexy Tanna blows into town, he finally finds the woman of his fantasies. And there’s something between them, but she claims she’s been burned by love ’em and leave ’em road dogs before. How can Fletch prove that he’s in it for the long haul, and that their sizzling relationship is better than winning any rodeo medal? It’ll take some sweet persuasion to convince Tanna that Muddy Gap is where she belongs
