Romance

THE CARE AND FEEDING OF AN ALPHA MALE by Jessica Clare reminds us that lying, even by omission will always come back and bite you in the behind and could cost someone the person that is the most important part of your life. Lying is also tied to being able to trust the other person.

Beth Ann Williamson is manning the silent auction table at the Historical Society fundraiser when one of the town's older residents, once again asks her when she and Allen Sunquist are finally going to get back together and get married. She tries to be polite and explain that it has been 10 months and that they are never getting back together. Especially after she had been a fool for almost nine years staying with him, even after he cheated on her four times. After he admitted to the fifth one she had had enough. She never went to college, it was not her thing, but behind his back she had saved enough money and went to beauty school... hair and make up she knows. After dumping Allan she opens her own salon, California Dreamin'. Now her mother is demanding she go out in the torrential rain to the woods by Daughtrey Ranch and bring her younger sister, Lucy home from the Quest Master weekend camp out, which she snuck out of the house to go to. Beth Ann would have liked to have gone home first and changed from her cocktail dress and Louboutin sandals, but her mother demands she go now. On her way she calls her best friend Miranda to have her send directions to her phone. When she gets to the location it is still raining like crazy and very muddy. She hikes to the main tent and is informed it will cost her $50 to get in. Even though she explains the reason she is there, she still has to pay. She doesn't have enough cash on her, but that is ok because they take checks. Frustrated that she has to pay and that no one uses their real names, only their Quest Master name, and she has no idea what Lucy's name is. She sets off to find her sister. She is pointed in the direction of the Templar camp, which is the furthest camp site from the main tent. Beth Ann has no idea that while she is traipsing around the camp, there is a group of emergency personnel clearing out the camp and moving everyone to a local hotel for their safety.

Colt Waggoner is in charge of taking everyone's car keys. Since all the cars are stuck in the mud he needs the keys to drive the cars to the hotel after they are towed out of the mud. While taking care of this Lucy sees him and explains that Beth Ann is still out there looking for her. Colt didn't see her name on any list and explains this to Lucy. Lucy shows him where Beth Ann's car is parked and that she is not suppose to be there. Colt is not happy about having to go and rescue the town's princess. Colt reassures the others that there is no one left to rescue. He decides that when he finds her he is going to make her rough it for the weekend and teach her a lesson. When he finds her he tells her they have to stay there until the rain lets up, because the river is too swollen to cross. What he learns about her by the end of weekend has him rethinking what he thought he knew about her.

I liked the chemistry between Colt and Beth Ann. You root for them to have their happily ever after. Especially with all the garbage that Allan put her through. But you know there is going to be a big blow up when she learns he lied to her and that there was more than one occasion he could have told her the truth. THE CARE AND FEEDING OF AN ALPHA MALE is worth the read. I like Ms. Clare's writing style and how she brings a story to life. This book is worth your time.

SUMMARY

Beth Ann needed a hero.

Beth Ann Williamson is done with her on-again, off-again
fiancΓ©. The problem? No one in her small town believes that
it’s really over. Beth Ann is determined to show Bluebonnet,
Texas, that she can take care of herself. But her plans go
awry when she gets stranded in the woods and has to be saved
by a handsome, if scowling, Marine.
She got more than she bargained for.
Survivalist Colt Waggoner is not pleased when he’s sent to
rescue the pampered princess, and he’s even more annoyed
when Beth Ann isn’t grateful for his help. He decides to
teach the sexy blonde a lessonβ€”a weekend alone in the wild.
Just the two of them, in muddy, wet clothing that needs to
come off…

But Beth Ann is not as spoiled as he thought. And when she
propositions him for a one-night stand, he knows he should
turn it down, because this alpha male might need more than
one night to satisfy him…
