Bodyguard Arianna Jackson works for Guardians, Inc. She witnessed the killing of a client's husband by Joseph Rainwater, the very rich and influential head of an Alaskan crime syndicate, and is in protective custody in a safe house in the remote woods of Alaska awaiting his trial. When Rainwater's thugs attack the cabin, only Arianna and US Marshall Brody Callahan escape alive.
Brody believes someone in the Marshall's office is a mole and they can't trust anyone. They hike through woods, swim through river rapids and rappel the side of a mountain in an effort to get to Fairbanks where Brody can get trusted help. Though fugitives on the run, there is a connection between Brody and Arianna. They understand each other, but cannot act upon their growing physical attraction, since Arianna will be going into a witness security program when this ordeal is over. Will Brody be able to keep Arianna safe until she can testify in Anchorage?
This is my second read of one of Margaret Daley's Guardians, Inc. books. GUARDING THE WITNESS is a fast-paced adventure that will not let you put it down. There is suspense at every turn. Just when you think Arianna and Brody are going to be safe, another distraction pops up to keep you turning pages. This is a story about betrayal, deception and trust; about needing others in your life you can turn to for help and needing the Lord's help too. Arianna and Brody rely on their skills, strength of character and faith in God to face each trial they combat. Both are learning forgiveness and trying to move on with their lives. Daley's characters are true-to-life and her plot is riveted with suspense. If you like a thriller, mixed with some inspiration and a little romance, GUARDING THE WITNESS is a great choice.
