Genevieve may not exactly be living her dream the way she
wants but it isn't totally apparent to the outside world.
She has retired from her London life and moved to a house
boat community at a marina in Kent. After working hard and
saving her money, she has bought a boat and is renovating it
all on her own. She has made a few close friends of her
neighbors at the marina and is trying her best to settle in
to a relaxed and normal life.
That just isn't possible, though. When she lived in London,
Genevieve was a salesperson by day and an exotic pole dancer
by night. At first, she balances the two with an ease that
astounds even her. But eventually, the two jobs collide and
her life begins to spiral downward. On top of that, she
manages to get herself right in the middle of something that
is, at the very least illegal, and at worst, life
threatening dangerous.
Genevieve manages to leave both jobs simultaneously and
settles into her life at the marina. However, it seems that
danger follows her when, on the night of a housewarming
party she's throwing, a dead body turns up in the water
right beside her boat. Worst of all, she knows the victim.
Thus begins a terrifying journey that meshes the past with
the present and has Genevieve in a fight for her life.
DARK TIDE is written by Elizabeth Haynes, author of the very
popular and mind bending novel, Into the Darkest Corner.
DARK TIDE is a completely different style of book than the
previous one so don't expect many similarities, although
DARK TIDE is told in the same present, past, present style.
This keeps you informed of why actions are currently taking
place.
There are some seriously creepy moments in DARK TIDE, and it
is these moments that make the book remarkable. I came to
the conclusion that Genevieve is a much braver person than I
would ever be under the same circumstances. But that is what
makes her a rather likeable character even though, at times,
she seems somewhat scattered.
From the first page of DARK TIDE, you are going to find
yourself hooked. Give yourself over to the ride as Genevieve
tells you her story. Everything may not be all wrapped up
nice and neat at the end, but you will be happy you came
along to see it through. I, for one, am looking quite
forward to Elizabeth Haynes' next book. She never disappoints.
From the author of the acclaimed New York Times bestseller
Into the Darkest Corner comes another page-turning novel of
"gripping suspense" (Wall Street Journal). Genevieve has
finally escaped the stressful demands of her sales job and
achieved her dream: to leave London behind and begin a new
life aboard a houseboat in Kent. Not many people know that
she financed her fresh start by working weekends as a dancer
at a less-than-reputable gentlemen's club called the
Barclay, and she's determined to keep it that way. But on
the night of her housewarming party the past intrudes when a
body washes up beside the boat, and Genevieve recognizes the
victim, a fellow dancer from the Barclay. As the sanctuary
of the marina is threatened, and Genevieve's life seems
increasingly at risk, the story of how she came to be so out
of her depth unfolds, and she discovers the hard way the
real cost of mixing business with pleasure. . . .
