Lorelei Littleton knows exactly why she is sitting in a bar eying sexy catcher Mark Cutter. It's not that she's a baseball groupie who wants to go home with him. Well, she does want to go home with him but not for sex. She's been hired by his wronged ex-wife to steal his lucky charm for a lot of money. Money that will help save the life of her niece who needs an expensive operation. Lorelei will do anything for her family, even grand theft. She's having second thoughts and is about to walk away when Mark approaches her.
Mark is a rich, successful major league catcher who was burned by his first marriage and isn't looking for anything more than a good time. Something about Lorelei calls to him so he's more than a little pissed when he wakes up from a night of no sex to find that Lorelei has stolen his lucky charm. He tracks her down and is determined to keep her close until she returns his property. The fact that attraction flares between them just makes everything more complicated. Can this couple recover from a bad start to trust love?
Jennifer Season's excellent debut novel, STEALING HOME, is a must read for fans of contemporary romance. I'm not a big sports fan but I enjoy sports-themed romance and Ms. Season's Diamond and Dugouts series will one I keep an eye out for. Mark and Lorelei are well-matched as a couple. The way they talked with each other was really engaging, whether they were arguing, sharing their deepest secrets, or making love. They had complex personal histories that created true obstacles on their path to happy ever after. There was just enough baseball action without bogging down the story. The supporting characters were appealing, particularly Mark's teammates. I'm looking forward to seeing what Ms. Season has in-store for some of them when it comes to romance.
