Like Michele's other books in the Broken Heart Oklahoma series, ONLY LYCAN'S NEED APPLY is full of snark, humor, friendship and a crisis that needs a very pregnant Queen Patsy's immediate attention. The first few chapters give readers a brief history of Ruadan the First and Lycans. These pages are helpful in remembering where MICHELE BARDSLEY has her starting point with her characters background.
ONLY LYCANS NEED APPLY starts off in the Sudan with archaeologist Dr. Moira Jameson and her assistant Dove. Dove notices something very strange about the ushabtis they unearthed, they have fangs. Dove is trying to convince Moira that there are such things as vampires. Moira agrees it's weird, but instead of believing she blames the fangs on the crazy ancient Egyptians. Moira is getting very concerned because the permit they have for their dig is only good for another 3 days and she has at least another 2 weeks worth of work to do.
Later that night Drake, Darrius, Jessica, Patrick, Eva and Lorcan show up at the site per Queen Patsy's request, as protection detail. While the six paranormals are inside a cave waiting and watching, Karn makes his appearance and tries to get to Moira. Drake is determined to not let that happen. He has been watching her for about a week and has decided that he would like a chance with her. Their first introduction is Drake running into Moira and Dove's tent in his wolf form to rescue the two. Karn gets away and Drake is left standing in the tent looking at Moira and Dove.
When he shifts back to his human form Dove is beside herself that she is right about paranormal beings. When she meets the others and discovers they are vampires, she wants to make sure she is not dreaming and exclaims that the Theodora Monroe book is real. The six vampires explain about the ancients and the pyramid, and that they need her help with uncovering the location. She helps them that night to find the pyramid, unfortunately she will never know what a marvelous discovery she unearthed. You know those vampires with their glamour and wanting to be kept a secret. The one that is the most disappointed that he will not be remembered is Drake.
I liked ONLY LYCANS NEED APPLY, it was fast paced, exciting and funny. All the things I like and expect in a Broken Heart Oklahoma book by Michele Bardsley. I am happy that each of the characters seem to be finding their mates, sometimes in the most unusual of places, but that they are happy. The introduction of new characters that fit in well with the established residents help to keep the series fresh and interesting. This is a must read if you are a fan on this series.
