Mystery

Emma Taylor thought she was making the best possible decision when she left New York to help her aunt Arabella with her lingerie store, Sweet Nothings. Coming home to Paris, Tennessee, isn't the easies of transitions, but Emma is determined to make the best of it. After all, she adores her aunt, and turning Sweet Nothings from a struggling store into a charming boutique is just the kind of challenge she could use.

It certainly helps that Brian, her brother's extremely attractive friend, has also recently come back to Paris to help with his father's hardware store and is willing to help out with the renovations that Emma and Arabella have in mind. They close the store for a few weeks to get things ready for the store's grand re-opening, which will include a fashion show, complete with locals acting as models.

A wrench gets thrown into the plans when Guy Richard, Emma's ex-boyfriend from New York, shows up. He attempts to woo Emma back, complete with a tempting job offer, but Emma remains unswayed by him, mainly because of his womanizing ways. As if his mere presence in Paris isn't bad enough, Guy ends up murdered in Sweet Nothings, and Emma ends up at the top of the suspect list.

Emma knows she must do what she can to find the killer herself, or everything she left New York for will be for naught. The attempt to save her aunt's store will be a distant memory, and restarting her own life will mean sitting in a prison cell. But when Emma starts her own investigation, her own life is soon threatened. Will she be able to solve this mystery before any other lives are taken?

MURDER UNMENTIONABLE is full of humour and charm. The characters are lively, witty, and relatable. The plot is interesting; however, the mystery is a bit predictable and I knew who the culprit was about halfway through the book. I wasn't sure of the motive, so it was nice to keep reading to figure out why the murder was committed. The budding romance between Emma and Brian is fun to watch develop, and I hope the relationship is followed in future books.

SUMMARY

Sweet Nothings has it all: silk ribbon, Venetian lace, the best bra fitter in town…

and two unsolved murders.

Emma Taylor thought she knew what to expect when she abandoned life as a big-city fashionista to help her aunt Arabella breathe new style into Sweet Nothings, her waning lingerie boutique. As Emma settles back in to Paris, Tennessee—a world where pie is served with a parable and a pitcher of sweet tea is the cure for most of life’s ills—her escape seems smooth as silk.

But when the town acquires a touch of unneeded je ne sais quoi with the arrival of Emma’s philandering French ex, a string of murders turns her world inside out. As the police’s top suspect, Emma is going to need more than fishnets to snare the real killer. And when she and Arabella refuse to let death threats wrapped in knifed nighties stall Sweet Nothings’ vintage lingerie fashion show, it becomes increasingly clear that any garter may hide a gun and that bullet bras might have to live up to their name…
