Romance Historical

Benjamin Wallace, the Earl of Heathton and his clever and beautiful wife Alicia are embroiled again with the enemy they met in Ruined by Moonlight, the first in the Whispers of Scandal series.

Lady Angelina DeBrooke is in love. What to others might be a joyous circumstance awakes an overwhelming dread. She is all-but-accused of murdering her first two husbands. Whomever committed the murders is still unknown, lurking in the shadows. She will do everything within her power to keep her beloved Christopher safe, even lay out the indelicate details of her life to a stranger with the hope he can run down the evil person who has ruined her life. She must do anything within her power to clear the mystery that has overshadowed her past to allow any hope of a bright future. Christopher Durham, Baron Lowe is becoming impatient with the secret nature of his relationship with the beautiful Angelina. He is certain he will be able to keep both of them safe no matter the source of the danger. He wants only to marry her and bring him into his life as one of the preeminent architects of his day. When the Earl of Heathton brings home the gravity of the danger, not only to him but to Angelina he is willing to follow his advice for a time, but aches for confrontation . A MOST IMPROPER RUMOR is a mystery nested within a mystery, a romance within a romance. Each book in Emma Wildes' Whisper of Scandal series is a bit different than a standard historical romance. Although the central puzzler and one of the couples is unique to each book, there is also an over-arching story line that involves the two main (now married)characters as well as the greater mystery of who is masterminding the repeated evil. Wildes provides readers with a clever, engrossing read and a happy ending while leaving trails that will make readers eager to pick up the next book in the series when it is published.

SUMMARY

What is society to do when the diamonds of the first water are caught in compromising situations, one after the other? Can the young ladies survive the season with their reputations intact…or will the scandalous whispers surrounding them bring about the ultimate ruination? Once the toast of the ton, Lady Angelina DeBrooke is no longer known just for her exquisite beauty, but more for her notorious marriages. Dubbed the Dark Angel, she has fallen in love for the first time and wishes to marry, but fears finding herself a widow for the third time. With two poisoned husbands and a cloud of suspicion hanging over her head, she turns to the only man in England who might help her… Benjamin Wallace, Lord Heathton, isn’t interested in playing detective again, but when Lady DeBrooke approaches him in a quest to clear her name, he finds the challenge irresistible. Her second husband was an old friend, and when he takes a closer look, he catches the scent of a foe he has hunted before—and knows this is his chance to finally trap the elusive prey...
