Thirty year old Julia Campbell, divorced, and living with her father, works diligently to save money to put her sister through college. Abused by an alcoholic father Julia and Trisha finally escape after being rescued by Nicholas, Nova Mare's security officer in Spellbound Falls, Main. Gathering pinecones and supplies for the Nova Mare resort Julia also works cleaning rooms and cabins for them. The resort is owned by the Oceanus's, actually a 12th century family of highland warriors and Kings. Nicholas is himself an enigma, found as an infant seaside by the Oceanus King himself in another century.

Julia's boss, Olivia Oceanus, offers her the position of event planner. Lacking confidence, she fears she cannot live up to the job. By now, she and Nicholas, have had their first traumatizing kiss which later culminates into hot sex. Julia has a tendency to "explode" from the timid woman into a sex demon when confronted with sex. Nicholas actively pursues Julia but she avoids him at all costs, declaring she will never marry again. The magic surrounding Nova Mare and the suspicious thunderbolts of lightning seem to coincide with strange disappearances and events. Nicolas returns from another century seriously injured from battle. Unknown as to who is determined to kill him, the astute and now enlightened Julia has the answer. Barely able to comprehend her involvement with those of another century, she finally has to admit her undying love for Nicholas and together led by one of his century-old cats, puts her life in danger to save him.

This is the second novel of the Spellbound Falls series that I have read. THE HEART OF A HERO is equally suspenseful and as exciting as the first. This is an on- the-edge-of-your-seat tale of mystery, fantasy and completely enchanting. I loved the characters and the strong, handsome highland warriors.
