Valerie Moyers is being held by a madman. She and several other women are kept in cages and drugged except for the day they are taken out where horrific things happen. Valerie stops eating to allow the drug to clear from her system. When she is taken out she manages to get away from Igor and call 911. She escapes from the house before help can arrive.

Anders and other enforcers arrive before the police and rescue the women they can find. Only as they search outside does Anders discover Valerie. Blood loss from the wound she received fighting Igor caused her to pass out.

When Anders finds that he can't read Valerie's thoughts, he receives the order to take her back to a safe house so she can be interviewed by Lucian Argeneau. In the interim, all of the others have their memories wiped and are returned to their normal lives.

Valerie is their best option for finding the rogue. Her wound becomes infected and she spends three days in the Argeneau household before she recovers.

Keeping Valerie in the dark about what they all are when they know she has been kidnapped by a vampire is hard on everyone. However, they need her knowledge when the other women who were with Valerie start disappearing again.

To Valerie, the Argeneau family and all of their friends are a puzzle to be solved until she discovers that they are the same as the man who kidnapped her. The only thing that keeps her where she is, is the knowledge that none of them have bitten her. Her attraction to Anders is another reason for sticking around.

Ms. Sands has managed to keep this series fresh with the introduction of new characters and the occasional appearance of just a few of the characters from the previous books. Each story is slightly different in how she introduces her human characters to the various enforcers and members of the Argeneau family.

This is the only vampire series I will read because I love her writing and look forward to each new book by this author. IMMORTAL EVERAFTER fit right in with the others and will be put on my keeper shelf.
