THE BIG BANG revolves around a group of families that live in a
suburban area called Melody Mountain Ranch. The main
character
Hope has been trying to have a baby along with her husband
Jim. Jim is more interested in his business, but does try
to do his part, as long as it doesn't interfere with his
business.
There are five main families in the sub division including
Hope and Jim. Frank and his wife Maryellen and their
daughter Eve. Frank is the pastor in the town and is trying
to get his church built. Right now he is holding services
in the school gym. Maryellen is obsessed with keeping her
weight off. Eve is into witchcraft. Frank also is trying
to get a playground built in the sub division. Will is a
stay at home dad. He is trying to get people to sign
against the playground as he feels it is built on swap
land. His wife Meg is a state rep. They have 3 children,
Tyler who is Will's step son and twin daughters.
Tyler is friends with Eve; he also is involved in
witchcraft. Tim is married to Theresa with a daughter
Lauren and twins on the way. Lauren is also friends with Eve
and Tyler and into witchcraft. Laney is a realtor, who is
always sick, married to Steve also with twins.
Frank, Will and Tim are all obsessed with Hope. All three
are always watching what the other two are doing especially
if they are around Hope. Hope doesn't seem to notice the
attention that they are giving her. In her mind, they are
just being good neighbors.
As the story progresses, we find that the more that Hope is
trying to having a baby, more things just don't go as she
had hoped. She goes to see a fortune teller and is told
that she will have a baby in the future. The big problem
is right now, Tim is trying to get a head at work and is
being sent to meetings all over the world and can't be there
when Hope is ovulating.
The sub division is getting ready for the big grand opening
of the playground. Everybody is involved in the
preparations. Eve and her follow witch crafters have their
own plan up their sleeve. Frank wants Eve to go to a camp
for the summer. She does not want to go, so she puts a
spell on her Father.
Because Tim will not be around for the opening of the
playground a long with this is the time that Hope is
ovulating. Hope is so depressed that she starts drinking
early in the day. As the day goes on, Hope get not only
drunk, but high as someone as put hash in the brownies. All
of the main characters get high. Hope is so out of it,
that Will, Frank and Tim all try to seduce her. One of
them does.
We find out that Hope does finally get her wish. Hope thinks
that it is Tim's as he does come home a few days after the
big event. Hope does not find out that it couldn't be Tim's
until she goes to see her doctor. Now the big question is
who is the father. Hope is so upset with this that she
tries to commit suicide but fails. Tim is called home and
he is delighted to find out that they are going to have a
baby.
In the mean time, Laney is getting sicker. We finally found
out what is causing her to always be ill.
There are a few twists and turns in THE BIG BANG. The final
few chapters put everything together and we find out all the
answers to all the questions and what become of the
families.
Melody Mountain Ranch is a gated, planned, suburban heaven
for everyone but interior decorator Hope Jordan. As Hope
struggles through the letdown of several unsuccessful
fertility treatments, her cul-de-sac neighbors Will
Pierce-Cohn, a stay-at-home dad and community activist;
Frank Griffin, a minister?cum?homeowners' board president;
and Tim Trautman, a soon-to-be father of five, jockey for
her attentions.
When Hope has a few too many cocktails and inadvertently
eats hash-laced brownies at the playground ribbon-cutting
gala/Memorial Weekend poolside potluck, she falls into the
arms of one of her three wannabe paramours. Maybe all three.
She wakes up with only fleeting memories of the evening, and
soon discovers that her dream of getting pregnant has become
a crushing reality. With all eyes on her, Hope is forced to
watch as the walls holding up her picture-perfect
neighborhood begin to crumble.
