Mystery

It's hot in Victoria Square. Katie is living above her boyfriend's pizza parlor and the heat from the ovens makes the apartment nearly unbearable. Add to the that the heat from the hot summer weather and it's no wonder she's often to be found leaning out her window.

Katie sees a fire in one of the shops and calls 911. When a dead body is discovered in the store and no one can find the owner, Katie sets out to find the killer. Food goes missing from the break room in Artisan's Alley and the room where her husband once lived in illegally is being used again.

New owners have purchased the house Katie wanted to turn into a bed and breakfast before her husband sank all their money into Artisan's Alley. Katie has some tough decisions ahead of her.

Detective Davenport is in charge of the investigation into the death at Wood U but he's about to retire. Will they be able to solve everything before that day?

ONE HOT MURDER really involves several mysteries. One doesn't involve a death but the the others do. Katie's insistence on looking into things puts a strain on her relationship with her best friend and nearly causes her to lose her life. The stories are intricately and skillfully woven together to make a very satisfying read. This is the best of the Victoria Square Mysteries so far.

SUMMARY

Where there's smoke...

Katie Bonner, the reluctant manager of Artisans Alley in the quaint shopping district of Victoria Square, is no stranger to ambivalence. Things have been going hot and heavy with pizza maker Andy Rust; so much so that Katie has moved in over his pizza parlor. But now that summer's ushered in a heat wave, an apartment above pizza ovens without an air conditioner is making Katie hot and bothered.

At the height of the heat wave, a tragic fire strikes Victoria Square. Wood U, a small store selling wooden gifts and small furniture, is destroyed. But the fire may just be a smoke screen; for murder. A body is found among the charred wreckage, and the victim didn't die from smoke inhalation. He was shot. Now; despite making Detective Ray Davenport hot under the collar; Katie is determined to smoke out a coldhearted killer...
