The books in Dee Henderson's O'Malley series are on my
keeper-shelf. I re-read the series (yes, the entire series
because I can't just read one) when I'm in the mood for
something familiar and familial that touches my heart. For
years after the release of THE WITNESS, I checked in
periodically to find out about her latest release only to be
disappointed. I gave up some time ago so imagine what a
wonderful surprise it was to discover I had missed the
publication of FULL DISCLOSURE. The story brings back the
authors distinctive voice along with characters who are
strong in their faith, a slowly budding romance, and a
complicated mystery as they hunt a killer.
Ann Silver, Midwest Homicide Investigator, is assisting in
the investigation of a death in a suspicious car accident
when she connects the victim to The Lady Shooter whom the
FBI has been hunting for years. Ann pays an unscheduled
visit to the FBI office in Chicago to speak with Special
Agent Paul Falcon, the top homicide investigator who has
made capturing The Lady Shooter his mission. Her plan is to
hand over the case and walk away but life doesn't always go
as we expected. Personally, the instant attraction that
flares between them leaves them both curious to learn more;
their mutual friends are more than happy to answer their
questions. Professionally, Paul finds himself depending on
Ann's skills as a homicide investigator to track the killer.
The case intersects with Ann's past in unexpected ways
revealing secrets she has strived to keep hidden.
Ann and Paul are intriguing characters. Both are seasoned
detectives who rely on their faith on a daily basis. They
have been single for a long time and are cautious about
starting a relationship. I thoroughly enjoyed watching them
take small steps towards each other as they found their way
to their happily ever after. Ms. Henderson found an
unexpected way to indirectly bring back the O'Malley's as
supporting characters which I loved. I would characterize
the search for the Lady Shooter as procedural rather than
suspenseful. The events take place over an extended period
of time as the team unravels the clues that lead to the
killer and another unexpected investigation. I was drawn in
by the unexpected twists and found myself reading late into
the night.
FULL DISCLOSURE a must read for fans of Ms. Henderson who
have been eager for her return to publishing. Readers new
to Ms. Henderson's writing will also enjoy the story as a
stand-alone though I highly recommend the O'Malley series.
Dee Henderson Is Back!
Ann Silver is a cop's cop. As the Midwest Homicide
Investigator, she is called in to help local law enforcement
on the worst of cases, looking for answers to murder. Hers
is one of the region's most trusted investigative positions.
Paul Falcon is the FBI's top murder cop in the Midwest. If
the victim carried a federal badge or had a security
clearance, odds are good Paul and his team see the case file
or work the murder.
Their lives intersect when Ann arrives to pass a case off
her desk and onto his. A car wreck and a suspicious death
offer a lead on a hired shooter he is tracking. Paul isn't
expecting to meet someone, the kind that goes on the
personal side of the ledger, but Ann Silver has his attention.
The better he gets to know her, the more Paul realizes her
job barely scratches the surface of who she is. She knows
spies and soldiers and U.S. Marshals, and has written books
about them. She is friends with the former Vice President.
People with good reason to be cautious about who they let
into their lives deeply trust her. Paul wonders just what
secrets Ann is keeping, until she shows him the John Doe
Killer case file, and he starts to realize just who this
lady he is falling in love with really is...
