Part of the Night Walker Series, this historic paranormal
romance novella is a fantastic, quick read that immerses you
in the Night Walker world brilliantly. Kane Bordeux is an
immortal god who once lived with the Mayans and now resides
in Paris. His strong good looks and wealth attract the
heroine, Marguerite Rousseau, a beautiful and strong-willed
woman who woos aristocrats while she picks their pockets.
Marguerite's alias is Le Voleur Dae or, the golden thief. Her
beauty, charm and wit allow her to get away with her crimes.
Her master is Antoine, a vampire. He drinks from her and
holds her captive through a blood bond. In order to buy her
and her cousin's way to the new world, Marguerite has turned
to stealing. When she meets Kane, however, she cannot resist
her feelings and he must come to terms with love after
centuries alone.
Kane was a very hot, very intriguing character, and I loved
Marguerite's cunning and adorable personality. Their love
grows into a passion so real that you can almost feel it
jump right off the pages. Their first sex scene was blazing
hot, yet sweet and romantic at the same time. Another great
aspect of this story was view that the Night Walkers were
here to protect humans, and Kane believed the vampires
should do the same. He detests Antoine and his abusive and
controlling nature. I rooted for Marguerite to steal her way
out of Antoine's grasp, and for her and Kane to be together.
It was hard to put this book down! Lisa Kessler's talents
shine through with rich details and delicious scenes. I
can't wait to get my hands on more of the Night Walker
series. Read this one for an unconventional view on vampires
and immortals, and for a steamy, passionate fix.
After the fall of the Mayan civilization, Kane, an
immortal Night Walker, has taken refuge in France for over
800 years. The modern world holds little interest for him
until the night he meets the Golden Thief and is robbed of
much more than his pocket watch.
Marguerite Rousseau is living a double life. By day she
is the assistant to an eccentric French artist, Antoine
Berjon, and by night she dons elegant evening gowns to woo
French dignitaries before lifting their wallets.
Sparks ignite when Kane captures the thief, but
Marguerite harbors a dark secret that could ruin them both.
