A sullen, lonely girl goes to summer camp while her parents divorce. But something lurks on the rugged mountainside, and when Rylie gets bitten she finds herself changing into a wolf... This is first in a young adult series called Seasons of the Moon. The reason this is a SIX MOON SUMMER is because Rylie finds herself forced to change shape at every new moon and full moon.
Though a vegetarian, Rylie suddenly craves juicy meat, and the girls who have been so nasty to her for weeks begin to be afraid of her newly violent temper. The camp horses are too spooked by her scent to let her ride and her senses are much keener. Terrified of what is happening, Rylie finds an ally in Seth, a lanky young man from the boy's camp across the lake. Seth tells her what is going on and shows her a book of legends in the counsellors' library cabin which describe the gradual process of change. Rylie has to hope that the curse is not irrevocable, but although Seth seems to know far too much, he can't stop it happening, and the true werewolf is still out there. Dragged back to the city briefly, Rylie feels that she no longer fits in, and the forest has become her home. She heads back as soon as she can to camp, knowing that this puts her, and the other girls, in even greater peril.
The descriptions of the forest were excellent and SM Reine has made a very realistic story, first out of Rylie's loneliness and second out of her take on the werewolf legend. I'll look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Rylie's been bitten. She's changing. And now she has three
months to find a cure before becoming a werewolf... forever.
Rylie Gresham hates everything about summer camp: the food,
the fresh air, the dumb activities, and the other girls in
her cabin. But the worst part is probably being bitten by a
werewolf. Being a teenager is hard enough, but now she's
craving raw flesh and struggles with uncontrollable anger.
If she doesn't figure out a way to stop the transformation,
then at the end of summer, her life is worse than over.
She'll be a monster.
