In THE MATCHMAKERS OF BUTTERNUT CREEK there's a group of
elderly ladies, known as the Widows who are meddling and
pushing to find
a suitable wife for the new young pastor, Adam Jordan. The
Widows are
the ones in the community who see to it that the food pantry
is well
stocked, that the sick are ministered to, the fundraisers
are successful and
most of all oversee the love life of all the town's
residents. They have been
fairly successful up until now. There really are no single
ladies in town to
hook up the pastor with but that doesn't stop the widows.
They are
determined to find the pastor a wife. I felt bad for Pastor
Adam, because
the widows just wouldn't leave him alone.
When a likely candidate is found in college freshman, Gussie
Milton, the
Widows get to work making arrangements for the two to have
time to get to
know one another, to socialize and to see that love is a
possibility for them
both. They have no qualms about applying pressure to these
two people
and will stop at nothing to see them get together. Because
of things that
happened in her past, Gussie is a bit hesitant to let
Pastor Adam know
how she feels. If the widows leave her alone long enough
she just might
come around and let him know she is interested in him. Every
time pastor
Adam turns around, the widows are in his office wanting to
know every
single detail of what happened between him and Gussie. One
day Pastor
Adam decides to turn up the heat and drives to Gussie's job
to bring her
flowers. She doesn't let on that she loves them. She is
both terrified and
delighted. She wants love more than anything in the world.
And less than
anything. Can Pastor Adam break down the walls she has
built around her
heart?
I did not want to put this book down. I got all wrapped up
in everyone's lives
and had to know what was going to happen next. Butternut
Creek is one of
those small towns where everyone knows everyone else's
business. This
book left me wanting to read more of the series to see what
happened to all
the people Id grown to care about. THE MATCHMAKERS OF
BUTTERNUT CREEK is book two and starts where the first book,
The
Welcome Committee of Butternut Creek leaves off. I can't
wait to read more
by Jane Myers Perrine.
A traumatic experience as a college freshman has left Gussie
Milton 'once bitten, twice shy.' Although she'd like a
relationship, she's frightened, so she's thrown herself into
caring for her aging parents, her photography business, and
her church. In the eyes of Miss Birdie and her friend
Mercedes, aka 'the Widows,' Gussie would make their young
pastor the perfect wife. And though the attraction proves
mutual, first Gussie's past and then the pastor's hopes for
the future threaten to keep them apart. Can the Widows'
meddling be the catalyst that changes the couple's lives
forever?
