Sydney Landon takes us back to the boardroom at Danvers International in the second book of this wonderful heartwarming series. Thank goodness she decided to bring us Suzy's story. I fell in love with this sassy sexy and vulnerable beauty in Weekends Required. It was like revisiting old friends and meeting some interesting new ones.
Suzy is the special events coordinator at Danvers. Pretty much a perfect fit for a very outgoing no nonsense intelligent woman who lights up the room each time she walks in. There's no denying it -- heads turn when Suzy enters. Brassy, provocative in dress and speech she is every man's dream but Suzy is very careful with her heart. In fact her heart is well protected almost shielded against caring too much for just about anyone. There are some people in her select circle of friends and of course her sister that have a special place in Suzy's heart. But after getting carelessly thrown over by a man she isn't willing to put herself in that position again. She and her sister Beth have been brought up by parents in a household that had no time for love and yet the two of them secretly still believed in finding their prince. Suzy is more pragmatic about her search for Mr. Right. She isn't sure she can trust her instincts and won't to take any more chances. Just not worth it in her book.
Meeting Gray Merimon was a mere blip on her radar. At least that's what she convinces herself. Gray's company is merging with Danvers and he is now going to spearhead this new company. That means that Suzy is going to have to face Gray on a daily basis. He is rather open with his show of interest when they initially meet. But Suzy quickly puts the kibosh on any personal time with this undeniably hot gorgeous man who she has to admit gets to her.
In fact Gray has the ability to make Suzy feel like a bundle of nerves and she is actually embarrassed at her reaction to him. Instead of approaching these feelings on an intellectual level she resorts to sassy retorts to anything Grey says. In his presence Suzy can only think of one thing -- here is a guy who looks like sex on a stick. Strangely Grey seems to know exactly what she is thinking and is very outspoken when it comes to his feelings for her.
Well life has a way of throwing you curve balls when you least expect them and for Suzy her life is going to take quite a detour after an unfortunate little accident. For the first time in her life Suzy is faced with accepting help from someone else and to her dismay it has Gray coming to her rescue. Her own personal knight in shining armor, truly what every girl dreams of but even so in the back of her mind there is a great reluctance to put her heart on the line. Somehow she knows that if a relationship with Gray doesn't work out, if he cheated or disappointed her, her heart would be broken beyond repair. Problem is she is already practically there. This is an amazing guy who cares and is willing to do practically anything for her.
But is he too good to be true -- only time will tell. Gray is heavily invested in his feelings for Suzy. He knows she is the one even if she is really good at setting up roadblocks. But Gray has a secret that could possibly ruin all the trust that Suzy has in him and in their relationship.
Landon's second installment in this series is even better than the first. The characters are so real they jump off the page straight into your heart. Those with tough outer skins were undeniably the most vulnerable. Landon writes from her heart and once again engages her audience in some really lively repartee. I can't wait for number three.
