Cassie Jackson finds herself uprooted to a small Virginia
mountain town when her husband convinces her they need a
fresh start. Cassie is given the cold shoulder by her
husband's reclusive family -- the Hunters and finds secrets
at every turn. When her husband dies in a horrible
accident, Cassie finds herself in the midst of an ancient
feud, surrounded by things beyond her understanding.
Deputy David Argon's great-aunt foretold him that the woman
he was to marry was coming. He just didn't expect her to be
married already, and to his lifelong enemy. David feels an
instant attraction to Cassie and he feels compelled to
protect her. David's family has been in Silver Grove for
generations, as long as Hunters have been there. He tries
to help Cassie understand how justice is meted out in this
small part of the world.
Cassie and David come together as he helps her look into the
death of her husband. And then are pulled even closer
together when David's sister is murdered. Cassie struggles
to come to terms with the things her husband kept hidden
from her and the lies he told. David is there to help her
piece things together while they both lean on each other for
strength. During a difficult time, a flicker of love sparks
to life. Can they keep that love burning, is their
connection strong enough?
DARK IN THE WOODS is a well written, paranormal romance with
great character development and amazing story building.
Rosemary Laurey does a wonderful job with building the scene
and describing the setting, I felt like I was walking in the
Virginia Mountains -- I could practically smell the trees and
feel the breeze coming off the river. I loved this book, I
felt like I had escaped to the mountains and can't wait to
go back again!
When the wild things are stirring, taking sides could get
you killed.
Uprooted to a remote Virginia mountain town by her husband
in a failed attempt to start afresh, Cassie Jackson gets the
cold shoulder from his reclusive, dark-haired family of
“hunters”. And only cool friendship from the tall, fair
neighbors across the river. When her husband is murdered,
and she is shut out of the burial plans, she sneaks into the
funeral home to at least say goodbye and discovers what it
is her mother-in-law from Hell didn’t want her to see.
Something oddly…furry.
Silver Grove used to be a quiet town—until Cassie arrived.
She has dared to cross the river, and from their first
glance, Deputy David Argon found himself drawn to his newly
widowed neighbor. Now, in the midst of the biggest crime
investigation in years, he feels compelled to shield her
from the rising tension among the citizens and the hunters.
Except protecting her means his hands-off policy is doomed
to failure. And when another murder hits too close to home,
staying out of her arms is mission impossible.
Warning: If you go out in the woods tonight, you’re sure of
a big surprise—and we’re not talking bears of the teddy variety!
