Zoel-Q24 is a teenaged girl who believes that the Old World
was destroyed because of unruly humans whose emotions made
them out of control causing catastrophic wars and
destruction.
She lives in an underground world called The Community
where everyone is implanted with a chip that controls their
thoughts and emotions. There is no pain, fear, love, war,
happiness, sadness, tears, or devastation. No emotions
exist. Zoel-Q24 believes if she goes above ground to The
Surface, she will surely die.
Every member of The Community has a feed in their brain
called the Community Link that keeps them connected with
commands throughout the day. They follow a strict schedule
and move about like robots. No one disobeys, has their own
thoughts, or knows anything different than their day to day
life in The Community.
Zoel-Q24 suddenly wakes up inside of herself one day and
has thoughts, emotions, and can actually think on her own.
There is a glitch in her hardware that is allowing her to
be herself. She's developing telekinetic abilities and
doesn't understand what is happening to her. When she
discovers there are more glitchers like herself, together
they form a plan to escape and travel to The Surface.
Zoel-Q24 becomes Zoe, a person who is no longer controlled
and is starting to realize everything she has believed all
her life was a lie. Without knowing who she can trust, Zoe
is on a mission to make it out alive before she is
deactivated and ceases to exist.
GLITCH is the first book in a new dystopian Young Adult
trilogy that blew me away from the very first sentence.
Comparable to The Divergent Series by Veronica Roth, GLITCH
is absolutely captivating.
Told in first person point of view, the reader is
immediately thrown into Zoe's world, thoughts and feelings.
She has no knowledge of what emotions are and it's
fascinating to watch her discover who she truly is and have
a mind of her own. Nail-biting suspense, nicely developed
characters, and a brilliant plot all make GLITCH a superb
debut novel.
GLITCH has romance, mystery, suspense, and plenty of twists
and turns to keep you guessing. The story ends with a
small cliff hanger but will be continued in the next
installment titled Override due out in February 2013.
Overall, I highly recommend GLITCH to adults and young
adults who will equally enjoy this wonderful book.
In the Community, where implanted computer chips have erased
human emotions and thoughts are replaced by a feed from the
Link network, Zoe starts to malfunction, or glitch, and
begins having her own thoughts, feelings, identity--and
telekinetic powers.
