Lady Alyson McGillivray is spending her honeymoon on a ship. Alyson has known her husband most of her life but she longs to know him as a wife. Unfortunately for Alyson the ship they are on is overtaken by pirates and her husband is taken prisoner. Alyson had been locked in a trunk hiding from the pirates when everyone has either been killed or taken hostage except for Will, a child and friend to the future king Jamie. Jamie was taken hostage and sent Will back to rescue Lady Alyson.
Sir Jacob Maxwell, captain of the Sea Wolf was on a secret mission to follow the ship carrying the young future king and ensure his safety. Jake must keep his distance and when the ship is taken by pirates, he curses himself for not being fast enough to save Jamie. Jacob insists on checking the abandoned ship to see if there are any survivors and much to his surprise he finds Lady Alyson and young Will.
Alyson is worried about her husband and she gets a vision that he has died so she fears for the worst. Jake is trying to protect Lady Alyson and the feelings he has towards her are not very respectable for a married woman. Through their journey to his home things begin to look like the pirates aren't who they thought they are. Jake and Alyson work closely together to find out what has become of her husband and the future king. Their journey is made more difficult by the "feelings" they begin to have for one another and neither is sure their hearts will come out whole in the end.
The final novel in Amanda Scott's Scottish Knights series, HIGHLAND LOVER ends the series with a tempestuous voyage on the high seas. Alyson and Jake have a chemistry that could cause a tidal wave. Their passionate scenes and clever repartee captured my heart and soul and left me wanting to go search for my personal knight. The series may be at a close but Scott is sure to be back with a new novel that will win our hearts all over again.
