Magic Unchained is the seventh in Andersen's NightkeepersI series and even though I cannot believe it they just keep getting better and better with each and every book! Andersen has keep me captivated and flipping frantically through the pages at each and every turn. The series itself is based on the Mayan calendar and the end result being the Mayan prophecy. Every book increases in its intensity and I find myself closer and closer to the edge of my seat! The dynamics that Andersen has created and kept throughout the series is simply amazing.

The story is very complex and for a first timer to the series I would suggest starting at the beginning so that you completely understand what is going on. There is Anna's vision, her lack of training, and her struggle to decipher its meaning. Then the story of Cara and Sven unravels and the writing style of Andersen really becomes apparent. Cara, a Winikin, has always had to make the tough calls in life, yet now she finds that the decisions are accepting death and when to fight for life. Fighting for battle is one thing, but falling in love is a completely new concept for Cara.

Sven is a complete lone wolf, but rather he is a Coyote and has always known that one day he would be able to run free. Fleeing unwanted feelings for Cara many years ago, Sven has never dealt with the loss he suffered by being forced to choose being free or being in love. Sven almost seemed selfish at times the way that he teetered on the bridge between being the man for Cara and having the freedom that he longed for. I was really getting frustrated with him and felt so bad for Cara. Even though Sven knew what he should do he just couldn't seem to get it all together.

The side story here is Rabbit. The kid has the heart of a lion and while he means well it seems to me that every decision he makes ends up being the wrong one. He continually struggles to prove himself to his father, to his family, and most of all to himself. I am really looking forward to a story just about Rabbit and seeing his happily ever after. Out of all the characters in the series my heart is with this one the most and I am very excited to see that the series finale will be Rabbit and Anna's story!

The story lines remain fresh, the characters remain loyal and true to themselves, and most of all the series is as exciting and hot as it gets! Nightkeeper fans MAGIC UNCHAINED is definitely one you don't want to miss!
