Cal Whittier, a virile good looking English professor
at the Wallace University in Tennessee, has protected his
father, Frank, since he was 7 years old. Frank was accused
of kidnapping little 2 year old Claire Sanderson, the
daughter of his fiancé. Claire was never found and there
was no evidence to convict Frank, however, this has not
stopped the police from continuing to harass him over the
past 25 years. From a devoted teacher and basketball
coach, Frank has been reduced to hiding away and working as
a janitor in an Alzheimer's facility since the publicity
created surrounding the child's loss and his involvement
was revealed.
On the run to protect his father Cal has avoided any
relationship. At least until he chooses to provide support
to an older student whose 10 year old son has come up
missing. A case close to his heart, Cal continues to
support Morgan Lowen and her son Sammie, long after Sammie
returns home from running away. This publicity creates
interest with the Massachusetts police where Claire went
missing. Just as something special is developing between
Cal and Morgan, her extremely influential and rich father
threatens to take her son. Morgan's father uncovers
details about Frank when he learns Sammie is spending
time with him on the basketball court. Keeping his
father's involvement in Claire's case from Morgan causes
her to question her involvement with Cal. As this is the
first time he has allowed himself to care, Cal accepts it
has lost him the love he so desires unless his father is
exonerated of the crime.
A SON'S TALE portrays vivid accuracy of everything a
mother
experiences at the horrifying loss of a child. The
characters are very well defined and the story is
heartbreaking as it goes through the steps every mother
fears. Even through the sadness, hope and the motivation
to go on is necessary. The suspense mounts throughout A
SON'S TALE
and kept me on the edge of my seat. This was an
excellent read.
Twenty-five years ago a mysterious crime was committed in
Comfort Cove, Massachusetts. Frank Whittier was accused—but
never charged. And it ruined his life.
Now Cal Whittier, Frank's son, is determined to protect
him, to safeguard his father's identity. After years on the
run, they finally have their lives on an even keel, with Cal
teaching at a college in Tennessee. Two things could change
all that.
First, a cop in Comfort Cove starts looking into the case
again. And second, Cal gets involved with single mother
Morgan Lowen. He has plenty of reasons to avoid her—not the
least of which is that she's an adult student in one of his
classes. And in Cal's situation, any relationship is
risky. Still it could be the best risk he's ever taken!
