Suspense | Thriller Police Procedural

Dealing with the death of their baby girl to SIDS, Jeff and Sarah Griffin's marriage is in crisis. Jeff works as a mechanic and volunteers as a fireman, while Sarah is a teacher in their Montana hometown. They have a nine-year- old son who's always wanted to see New York, so they are granting his wish with this vacation trip. Jeff and Sarah are also hoping a change of scenery will help their marital situation. But picking up the wrong backpack from the airport baggage claim area throws them into a nightmare beyond their control.

Thinking everything is fine after the backpack problem is resolved, the Griffins go sightseeing. While taking photos in Times Square, Jeff realizes they need new batteries for their camera and goes into the nearest store. Gone only a short time, he returns to find that Sarah and Cole are not where he left them. Frantically searching the area, he's unable to locate them, then a street person tells him he saw them get into a white van. Jeff knows they would not have gone willingly, so he has to contact the police.

At first, the police are suspicious of Jeff, who's beside himself in anguish. He realizes that no matter what has happened in the past, Sarah and Cole are the most important things in his life -- he has to find his family! The police finally believe Jeff, but they are stretched to the limit handling protection for all the delegates of the United Nations in town for a big meeting. If the police can't help, then Jeff will do whatever it takes to rescue his loved one on his own. As circumstances unfold and clues are followed, both by the police and Jeff, it soon becomes apparent that Sarah and Cole's abduction could have consequences of global proportion not only for the city of New York, but the entire world.

This is the second book I've reviewed by Rick Mofina and I'm as impressed with this one as the first. THEY DISAPPEARED is so edgy and fast-paced, you'll be holding your breath in anticipation of the next plot twist. This is a deeply complex, tightly written thriller that no one should miss reading.
