A Warrior's Promise

Romance Historical

Charlotte has been raised by a father who believed learning wasn't just for men and he taught his daughter all he knew. Until Charlotte was attacked those lessons had not included how to fight but after the attack her father armed her with that knowledge as well. Then the day came when the king's men captured Charlotte's father and took him to their secret prison. Charlotte couldn't turn her back on her father so she does what she needs to save him. Charlotte cuts her hair, dresses in men's clothes and becomes Charles and set off on a journey to rescue her father.

Bryce is on a mission to help the true king of Scotland return to his rightful place as ruler. On his mission he saves a scrawny lad, Charles. Bryce finds Charles bright and courageous and vows to make him a real man. Bryce is proud of the young man who put himself in danger to save him during a fight but Bryce is shocked when he discovers the lad is really a lady. Bryce initially wants to take her back to his home for her safe keeping but those plans are thrust aside when Charlotte demands that she will be the one to save her father. Bryce understands her passion to save her father and he begins to evoke that kind of passion with her as well.

A WARRIOR'S PROMISE is a beautiful historical romance that gives the reader not one hero but two. I was entertained by the banter between Bryce and Charlotte; she continually surprises him with her thirst for knowledge and her ability to overcome her adversaries. The book was so good I didn't put it down until I was done and then I was tempted to pick it back up and read it again.

A WARRIOR'S PROMISE is book three in Donna Fletcher's Warrior Kings series. The series is about a prophecy of four brothers and that one of them is the true king. This is the first book I have read by Fletcher but now I'm hooked and have the first two in my queue to read before the fourth and final book in the series Wed to a Highland Warrior hits the shelves October 30, 2012.

SUMMARY

Charlotte may be young, and a woman, but she is braver than any Highland warrior. Disguising herself as a young boy, she sets out to rescue her father from imprisonment by the false king. Clever enough to know she can’t survive on her own, she teams up with Bryce, a fierce but arrogant warrior sworn to protect the true king. But two such powerful and stubborn souls are bound to clash. When their separate goals threaten each other’s success, they must risk their pride and give in to the attraction between them. Only when they become true partners will their quest be complete.
