THE ENGLISH LORD'S SECRET SON is another winner by Margaret Way. In this book young Catrina "Cate" Hamilton visits England and the former home of her adopted mother, Stella and meets with Lord Julian Ashton Carlisle, Fifth Baron of Wyndham, and new resident of that home, who introduces himself as Ashe. They fall in love. Soon she is led to believe it wasn't mutual and in fact Julian is planning to marry someone of his own class. Cate flees back to Australia and once there finds she is pregnant. Never guessing that she would ever see his father again, she had her son and raises him with the help of Stella.

Julian does show up eight years later and her boss not knowing their past asks her to be liaison for the company with Julian on some property he is looking to buy. At first she lies about her son's age, but after seeing him Julian knows the truth. After hearing that he had not married the woman she had been told about, Cate soon realizes that he has been duped into believing that she was the one to leave him.

As the truth unfolds it's a painful one for Julian but also other things come out that force Cate to step back and look deeper into her own history, in her adoption and her family

Margaret Way was one of the first writers of Harlequin I ever picked up and I continue to read these vividly written stories of England and Australia. The men are always powerful and the women feisty, but in this instance it is an eight-year-old who steals the show and brings all parties together. An amazing twist to allow the boy to complete the family he has always wanted and erase the lies that haunted both parents past.
