As a gift to his favorite archangels, The Old Man created the four archesses, who then fell to Earth. The archangels have been waiting generations to find their archesses, but other factions were not pleased with The Old Man's gift, and want the archesses for their own, either just to possess them so the archangels cannot, or for their gifts.
Ever since being seen healing someone when she was young, Ellie Granger has been on the move, hiding from those who would hurt her for her gift. Little does she know, her adversaries are more manipulative than she thinks and have been trying to weave themselves into her life for a long time. Her suspicions make it hard for her to trust handsome actor Christopher Daniels, the name used by archangel Uriel, the former Angel of Vengeance. Uriel knew that connecting with his archess would not be easy, but he didn't think it would be quite this difficult, with situations producing battles, manipulation, and contracts that should be read very closely.
I don't want to give spoilers for this awesome start to a great series. The twists and turns are part of the experience, and the characters are fantastic. Not only does the author do a great job with detailing the protagonist pair, she also develops the other archangels and their guardian, giving hope for the future books and encouraging the reader to want to write letters asking for all of the works at once....
Obviously, themes of trust and power are important in the work, but so are the ideas of not taking people at face value. For example, Lilith and Samael are certainly complex and fascinating characters, as is Max, the archangel's guardian. However, I'll admit, I'm excited about Azrael's book, which comes out in January 2013.
When four female angels were created for the archangels Michael, Gabriel, Uriel and Azrael, a chaos spurned by jealousy erupted, and the archesses were secreted to Earth. The four favored archangels followed, prompting a search that has last millennia. But for Uriel, the former Archangel of vengeance, the search ends the moment he lays eyes on Eleanor Granger, his one true arches. Can he protect her from the danger lying in wait for her-and win her heart?
