THE SLAYER is my first foray into steampunk but it won't be my last. Theresa Meyers brings characters and scenes to life in a way that keeps you reading and when finished will leave you wanting more.

In THE SLAYER, Winchester Cyrus Jackson "Winn" and his brothers Colt and Remington are Hunters. They were trained from childhood to fight the Darkin, or demons, and that includes vampires, Fae and anything else not human. He has given up the Hunter life to become a sheriff in a small town but is about to be drawn back into it by the last person in the world he expected to ask for help. The last person he expected to become very attracted to, a vampire.

Lady Alexandra Porter, Contessa Drossenburg, the emissary of Emperor Vladimir the Fifth, imperial majesty of all vampires, has been sent to find Winn and bring him back to Transylvania. They believe he can help them recover a part of the Book of Legends that has been stolen and stop the archdemon, Rathe, from opening the Gates of Nyx and ruling the world. The emperor believes that Winn and his brothers are the Chosen, the ones who can save the world.

The book has been torn into three sections by the first Hunters, Cadel, Haydn and Elwin, and taken to separate sites, after a crack in the Gates of Nyx has released a number of Darkins onto the world. They fear with the book the Gates would be opened fully and nothing left of humanity.

What follows Winn's agreement to help is nonstop action. Werewolves, Fae, European Hunters, gypsies and pirates all become involved in the adventure as they fly in a dirigible toward Europe, then travel to Paris to retrieve the book, get chased, shot at and tricked.

All the while "Tessa" and Winn fight the impossible, an attraction to each other that becomes love. It's a love that has the Contessa offering an incredible sacrifice to save her Winn from Rathe.

THE SLAYER is the second book of the Legend Chronicles. It isn't necessary to read the first in the series to enjoy THE SLAYER, but after reading it, you will want to go back and read the first and wait anxiously for more.

SUMMARY

Brothers Winchester, Remington and Colt know the legends--they were trained from childhood to destroy demon predators, wielding the latest steam-powered gadgetry. It's a devil of a job. But sometimes your fate chooses you. . .

CHASING TROUBLE

Winn Jackson isn't interested in hunting nightmares across the Wild West--even if it's the family business. Unlike his rakehell brothers, Winn believes in rules. As sheriff of Bodie, California, he only shoots actual law breakers. That's what he's doing when he rescues the Contessa Drossenburg, Alexandra Porter, a lady with all the elegance of the Old World--grace, beauty and class. And then he sees her fangs.

Alexandra isn't just some bloodsucking damsel in distress, though. She's on a mission to save her people--and she's dead certain that Winn's family legacy is the only way. Luckily, aside from grace and class, she also has a stubborn streak a mile wide. So like it or not, Winn is going to come back with her to the mountains of Transylvania, and while he's at it, change his opinions about vampires, demon-hunting, and who exactly deserves shooting. And if she has her way, he's going to do his darnedest to save the world. . .
