Mama Silverthorne has one more child to push towards her happy ending before walking into that bright light (or not, she'll decide when she gets there!). Mama, haunting the back of her old Buick, is worried about Kelly, her middle and most-self-sufficient child who has often been overshadowed by super-athlete Dean and rebellious youngest child Kate. Kelly is using Dean's wedding as an excuse to hang out in Deer Lick, Montana to lick her wounds after losing a big case. She's helping out at the Sugar Shack and reconnecting with herself and her family as she tries to reignite that passion for the law (or anything, for that matter). Mama wants her to kick "Sister Serious" to the curb and start having some fun.
More than eager to give Kelly's passion a jumpstart, Deputy James Harley hasn't stopped thinking about her since the night they spent together after Kate's wedding. Kelly would prefer to forget that embarrassing night but can't seem to control her attraction to the hot deputy. Plus, he's a good man who challenges her to find something that makes her happy. While James wants Kelly, he doesn't think he has much to offer given his past and the fact that he's raising his surly teenage brother. Will James and Kelly really be able to find their happiness together?
I've been a fan of the Sugar Shack series since book one and enjoyed the chance to revisit the small town of Deer Lick and its engaging inhabitants. SOMEBODY LIKE YOU is a nice addition the series that continues the story of the Silverthorne family. The banter between Kelly and James was entertainingโhumorous and flirty. The burdens they each carry bring emotional depth to the story and genuine obstacles to their developing relationship. The one element I struggled with was Kelly's decision making about her career. Kelly's emotional crisis over losing one case didn't ring true for a successful Chicago persecutor. Maybe my perception that lawyers would have somewhat of a thick skin is off, but I just didn't feel like her decisions related to her career were adequately supported making hard for me to understand her motivations. That said, I have no doubt fans of the series will enjoy another trip to the Sugar Shack.
